312mm brakes are pretty good eh?

Featured Replies

They're getting better! Brakes may be a little bit spongey due to needing another good bleed, but I've already found I can brake later than I could with the old 256mm brakes fitted! Can't wait for full potential to be unleashed.

Still got a nasty grinding noise on right turns, and sometimes when going straight. Something somewhere is trapped behind the brake disc, and I suspect its a stone, or perhaps the brake guard is rubbing with the top of the disc? Gonna be checking that on Saturday along with the bleed.

Hope my boost sensor arrives before the weekend too - Would be nice to fit that and (hopefully ;)) get the turbo working full time.

yep they certainly do stop you well :D

What pads are you running?

When my pads get hot, the braking is very very very extreme

Since I put mine on, I have never had brake fade, not even on tracks. The feel is better too, giving more confidence. I love em. Cant wait to wear them out and put some drilled/grooved discs on. They should pull my face off then :D

I've got grooved disk's, the thing I like about them the most is the noise they make

The thing I liked about my grooved discs most was the way the car stopped ;) Each to their own

:P

Should of rephrased that, the noise they made was a plesent suprise on top of their ability to stop the car :D

What noise are they making

Jason, I had an occasional grinding noise on mine, took weeks to find, turned out it was one of the bolts at the bottom of the suspension just catching the inside centre of the disc on certain combinations of bend/suspension travel. was worst on full lock one way going backwards quickly. I ended up thrashing the car backwards around my mates workshop courtyard to help identify it. It was only just catching but made a lot of noise, a quick nick on the bolt with a small griner cured it. Stating the obvious but just look for shiney bits of metal

What noise are they making

More of a wir, when you brake hard, sounds like a world war 2 plane of something lol

Stuart - sounds simlar, but its not during funny turns - Its just there all the while and turning to the right increases it, to the left quietens it. I think I'll just grind off the brake guard entirely. That'll sort it! :D

With 60bhp?! (if that :o) NOT a chance! :( I'm just hoping I get up to standard vRS power for the RR days coming up rather fast! :D

It's not how much you have it's how you use it that counts! ;)

Which works for many things in life :P

So this project has cost you  amount of cash and lost you 90 bhp :rubchin:......

Its got the potential. :P Its just breaking me in for when the true power is felt. ;)

Having said that, the torque low down in the rev range is still impressive, even with no boost. :) By Xmas it might be nearly finished ya know. ;)

I note that you aren't specifying *which* christmas......

Thanks Dr.Z! Good thing to get me salivating is a ride in a local's "way over 200bhp" Seat PD130 off cupranet. ;) That'll spur me into action again. :)

:finger::rofl:
