Columbus With Dab+ & Ssd?

Featured Replies

Is there officially a version of the Columbus (not the newest MIB in Octavia Mk3) that had DAB+ & and SSD from the factory?

I've seen some for sale, but cannot find any concrete evidence that Skoda ever made them that way.

Part number is 3T0 035 686 H if that helps.

Thanks.

That's a Skoda part number prefix (3T =Superb I believe) though so doesn't that imply Skoda have made it?

The part number including suffix is genuine Skoda part, the '686' showing it's DAB equipped, but is the 'H' suffix factory fitted with SSD?

I can't find any technical specs on it anywhere.

Its my understanding but I'm not sure having only read fleeting references myself also.

I had a good search through the Internet today and only found references to the RNS-510 having SSD's factory fitted.

I'm a bit concerned that the one I'm being offered has been opened and a SSD fitted afterwards for some reason.

That then makes me question whether it is actually DAB+ (as opposed to DAB).

Hmm tricky. Isnt the seller answering questions then, if not I would probably walk away anyway..

I haven't asked any specific questions as yet; just received information that, to the best of my knowledge, seems false somehow.

Based upon that, I've not pursued it as yet.

I might start asking if / when I believe Skoda did do a Columbus with SSD.

Only thing I can deduce is that it has been fitted to the Superb MK2 made since Nov 2013.

EDIT:

Found an ebay auction

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-COLUMBUS-RNS510-navigation-system-navi-with-DAB-radio-/201152577028

Suggests it has a 40GB HDD and not SSD.

Edit again

This suggests otherwise.

I had a look on eBay as part of my research and there are several with that part number but only one stating SSD (ironically it's the cheapest one).

Your second link is interesting because the colour scheme on the display is from a VW RNS-510, only the sticker on the top bears a Skoda logo (but the screen in that picture isn't illuminated).

The SSD issue seems a bit dodgy so far.

If it's hardware 6270 then it will be SSD, I'm fairly certain. Not had hold of one yet to check but that's my understanding.

Thanks for that.

So there is definitely a Skoda Columbus with SSD factory fitted and that is, as far as you know, HW: 6270 (on the large white sticker on the case)?

If that is correct it gives me some reassurance that the advert may be correct.

I did ask questions today and was assured that it's DAB+ & SSD. Although I was also told its a 40Gb drive, but I seem to recall reading about it somewhere and it being a 36Gb SSD that was fitted (to the RNS-510).

As I said, I've not had hold of an SSD unit yet but I'm sure the SSD is 32Gb. I can't see Continental making a special unit with different size hard drives for different brands really. So I would guess they're all the same.

There's so many sellers who have no idea about the units really. They just pinch someone elses advert wording and add it to theirs with little regard for the actual content accuracy.People just don't really care about the units they sell, just a matter of getting it shifted and cash into the bank, so I would just make sure you have the guys written word that it is what it is, and if it turns up wrong then you have recourse somehow.
