Need Help.. Anyone On Here Fitted An Uprated In Tank Fuel Pump?

Featured Replies

I fitted an uprated pump today and a vw 4 bar fpr.  I made sure when putting the pump back into the tank the arrow was lined up etc.  But now for some weird reason my car cant make anywhere near the boost it could previously.  Power gets cut at around 14psi, before I was at 21psi.  It feels ok and drives normally but as soon as boost starts to go over 13/14psi or so the car takes a fit followed by lots of pops from the exhaust system and power being cut...

I`ve been told I might have fit the pump incorrectly.  But surely if It wasn`t fit correctly my engine wouldn`t run at all properly???  I`m confused.  The pump I believe is a Sytec high flow pump?  H P3031.1 or something like that written on it?

Ok cars hesitant starting up now aswell.  Before I fitted the uprated fpr and pump it would fire up straight away almost on the first crank.  Now it cranks 3-4 times and splutters before it starts...

Try it with the FPR removed and put your standard one back on

As above, fit the standard 3 bar FPR back on. People need to understand that you can't just slam bigger injectors in the fuel rail or crank the fuel pressure up without map changes. As clever as the standard wideband lambda is, if the fuelling is significantly changed, it might not cope and throw a wobbler.

The fuel pump fitting *should* be fine from what you describe, but we don't know if the pump is engaged in the cradle properly or if any of the pipes/fittings have been damaged. I'd try the standard FPR first and flog the 4-bar one.

Just read your remap thread. Any chance that these problems are related to your remap and/or lack of MAF? Running MAF-less gives higher power figures from what I understand. But sure the MAF is there for a reason and having a working one is a good idea before fiddling commences?

Hey, I tried the 3 bar fpr and car won`t start at all with that one connected! :/

I am running mafless cus its faulty.  My mapper has instructed me to fit a new one which I`m doing towards the end of this week.  Its been running fine until I fitted the uprated fuel pump and 4 bar fpr today.

I think its possible I might have damaged one of the pipes, as the one connected to the top of the fuel pump was VERY tight and I had to wiggle it with grips.  I`m wondering whether I might have put a small split in it somewhere...

The pipes look quite special though and I`m hoping I can buy them from VW or TPS individually.

Mine was FT as well, but it is made if tough material. Did you replace the one-use clip with something like a fuel pipe clip or Jubilee clip?

I used a jubilee clip.  Did it as tight as I could.  When I had taken the pipe off there were marks in the side of the pipe where the grips had been on it.  Just strange how I put the 3 bar fpr back on and it won`t start at all now..

Ok found out what the special piping is called on the fuel pump.  It's corrugated fuel hose.  Do I need to use the same stuff if I need to replace?  or can I just use the standard black rubber fuel hose that you can buy from Halfords etc??

Recheck your pump is installed correctly

I`m going to take my fuel pump out tomorrow.  I`ve bought some fuel hose from Pirtek(rated at 23bar) as a backup just in case I have split the piping and it needs replacing.  What am I looking for exactly?  Does the arrow on the side have to be lined up EXACTLY?  What would happen if that wasn`t lined up properly??

I called TL Darby in Burton to see if they could get me some of the replacement corrugated fuel hoses and they told me no.  They wanted to sell me a complete sender unit for £250.. which I can`t afford! :/

Hi,

Did you ever manage to find out where to get replacement corrugated hoses?

I have a similar problem, discovered that the hose I used from unipart had kinked

So not enough fuel passing at high revs. Have done a temp fix but would like to replace with the correct hoses
