Road Tar from Hell......

Featured Replies

Driving down the country lane today near home, sign up saying 'Road Ahead Closed'. :notme: Looks at wife and turns down the closed road....... 'They wont let you past', 'you'll look like a fool when they make you turn round'. Drove down the 'closed' road until we saw some workmen who waved us past with a nice smile 'lovely white car' I almost heard them say. Took a look at the wife as we drove past them with a smug 'i told you so' look on my face. #always right!

Arrived home to do a quick foam and wash of the car......jet washed the lower sills.......the 'muck' didnt move. Took a closer look......touched the 'muck' and my finger stuck to the bodywork! TAR like you aint ever seen before!! All the way down the passenger side. Stacks of the stuff all over the rear sill and bumper, thick as I have ever seen it. :o

A quick wash turned into a two hour job. What a prat for ignoring the signs! #thewifeisalwaysright!

Used tar remover to get the lot off...... took some time but its looking ok now. Lesson learnt, but, what has this done to my waxing? Does it need redoing? I have dried and topped off the car with Sonax as I would do anyways.

Will this have stripped the wax?

The tar remover will have taken any protection off, so will need to be waxed again.

Yep...as said .......rewax is the only option Andy..Sorry

Tar remover is solvent heavy and strips waxes very quickly

Bummer!

Gives me the chance to try the GB Clarity on the passenger side panels and compare over the next couple of months!

I suppose only small consolation is the tar was so fresh it wouldn't have stuck so readily to the paint? (maybe?)  Or at least it was softer.

Road outside our house being resurfaced, we had a note posted through the door informing us that the surface would be sprayed with a bitumous solution and not to walk or drive on this surface as it will stick to shoes, tyres and car and is very difficult to remove.

Mmmmmm..........more time of work,    " Can't attend work to day, the road is too sticky to drive on "   Result

Just drive over here Andy and we'll tackle it together!!

I owe you a car wash & Wax anyway!!

Lol! Love an excuse to get out of work! The tar was quite soft but really tacky. Started melting the minute I put the tar remover on. Had I not been worried about removing the wax id have found it quite therapeutic! When I went to wipe it away it smeared yellow tar mixture all over the panels! Took a bit of tlc to get that off too! Sonax on those panels for now until I get round to a full detail. I'll bet those smiling workmen knew I was getting my comeuppance!

I'll try and head over to yours in the new year Chris. I'll be paying though! That was just a donation to show my support!

Sonax BSD on a bare panel will give protection to outlast a good few waxes, I wouldn't worry overly.

You will be topping up before the first layer gives up the ghost
