Windows 8.1 Tablet

Featured Replies

They (dell) look quite good and the desktop docks don't look too expensive either.

Apparently you need to be quite diligent and update the bios or they can be troublesome.

I've seen the desktop docks for £35 on ebay which is pretty good.

Batteries are also replaceable which is another bonus. Accord is due a service now so gadget shopping is on the back burner for a bit.

  • Asus Memo pads are quite good, as are the LG tablets advertised recently.  Both have SD slots.   I'm considering something else 7" to replace the v1 nexus 7 should Lollipop slow it further.

  • I forgot it comes with a years subscription to office 365 as well. I haven't tried the iplayer stream yet but you can download them. Netflix works well (but then it always seems to whatever you run it

  • Lollipop slowed my Mk1 Nexus so I did a factory reset and now it's back to full speed. Very impressed Sent from my C6903 using Tapatalk

I've just got the linx 7. For £70 it's a freaking bargain. Plugged into a monitor its perfect for the kids to play simple games on.

It's quite ironic that I have it connected to apple keyboard+mouse, which cost more than the computer itself.

So much for me getting a big Win tab.

As said the reason for me thinking of one was to access my Amazon streaming video but I was refusing to pay £150 for the privilege of being tied to Amazon on another android tab.

Well I wouldn't pay £150 but I did pay £60.

Picked up a refurb Fire HD 16Gb on an offer for £60. Looks mint and has same warranty as new.

Also makes my Nexus 7 2012 look like a Corsa racing a Veyron. Reminds me of how the Nexus used to be before Google's 'updates'. There is an advantage in that I can also download streaming videos onto it, won't get a lot in what's left of 16Gb but enough to pass a bit of time.

Another thread prompted me to come back to this with a quick update.

The Linx 10 is still performing great - I never power it off fully, it just sits in standby and comes on when needed, although the boot time is very quick if it does power off. It's frustrating that the charger is not a USB type one but I can live with it, just means that if I go anywhere for anytime I need to remember the specific charger.

Once a month it does forget the WiFi network and needs a reboot to bring it back on but it's no show stopper.

For browsing, Twitter, emails etc it's great - in fact we haven't touched the main house netbook since having it. I have my work laptop, the Linx and OH has her Amazon Fire HD so the house netbook is pretty much redundant.

All in all a very good purchase.

I got an adapter cable with USB on one end and the little jack plug on the other to allow charging from my multi port USB charger. It works brilliantly.

It's a portapow USB to 0.8mm cable purchased from Amazon for £4. The description says for Android tablets but it charges the linx brilliantly, provided your USB charger outputs enough amps (2.5A or more seems ideal)

Do you have a link by any chance? Sounds ideal.

Have any of them got GPS or 802.11 a ?

Has Lidl marketed one yet ?

Nick

I think they've all got 802.11x. I don't think GPS is too common on the windows tablets.

If you want windows with GPS then a Lumia phone would do the trick they come with the Nokia Drive sat nav for free. Works offline when you download the maps.

Having lived with an 8.1 tablet for about 6 weeks all I can say is it's confirmed why I won't buy a windows tablet or mobile myself.

Hideous interface, poorly executed predictive text which only seems to work in Microsoft apps, meaning typing each letter manually on screen.

I'd avoid and buy a convertible laptop instead, or go with ios or Android. They'll be much cheaper and better spec'd too

Win10 might be an improvement and you'll get a free upgrade on your tablet.

Apparently deals with the desktop/tablet mashup much better.

It's a work one, so I have to wait. Currently Q1 2016.
