Cruise Control dropping out?

Featured Replies

Twice this morning my cruise control "dropped out" - once at 50mph (in the roadworks on the M3) and once at 70mph (on the M25). It might have occurred when going over a bump or when the gear changed (difficult to tell) - has anyone else experienced this before? The car is Octy Mk III VRS TDI DSG with cruise control fitted as option at factory.

Thanks.

Yes mine has dropped out a few times as well, I have the VRS with a DSG box, but I don't use it that often, I'll just keep an eye on it, to see if it gonna get any worse.

Mine stopped working in the summer (yellow cruise symbol) but now when it's snowing outside its working :/ I think it might be moisture in the electronics some where..

It's probably just a cheap and nasty switch. Mine was the same, it needed replacing.

Mine has done this once as well. 2.0TDI DSG

Thanks for all your comments (and link to the previous posts). I'll keep my eye on it - the car is still well within warranty if it becomes more of a problem. I'm still trying to get used to its operation - my previous car, SEAT Exeo, had a separate stalk for CC and to cancel cruise I pushed the stalk forward - can't do that on the VRS at night, i'll end up blinding oncoming motorists!

Hi mate,

There are 2 problems - you probably have number 1...

1. There is a s/w fault which there is a recall for.  Your dealer will flash it for free.  It's not a total cure but it improves it immensely (Aki78 went from suffering several occurrences each day to 1 every 5000km or so). Mine's been done but I am not due to give it a real try until February when we head down t o the Pyrenees again

2. the switch on the stalk can play up and engage CC by itself at the most inappropriate times - slowing down for lights, in a queue of cars etc.  Bloody dangerous and subject to another recall I believe.

Good luck with it.

If I were you I'd just get it in and sorted. My CC would not work when I wanted and this only gets more frequent but would then it would cut in by itself, usually whilst navigating a roundabout. Skoda know about the issue, it'll take them about 3 hours and might just avoid a dangerous situation for yourself.

It's interesting that Skoda has decided to go with two different designs depending on which CC you've opted for. (It's a separate stalk if you have ACC.)

I've had the exact same issue too. Octavia Mk3 vRS 2.0Tdi. Like most other people have posted there seems to be consistency to the CC dropping out. It can be after a minute or an hour. Also speed, or road conditions don't seem to play a part.

Have you had the software update to fix this?

My advice to anyone would be don't accept a software update as it doesn't fix the problem it just makes dropping out less frequent. The actual switches are the problem. It's cheap and nasty rubbish which needs replacing.

Odd, tried a complaint to SUK about the switches?

Strange, mine has not dropped out since the software update...

bet the b*****s changed the switches instead :D

I had this dropping out problem since the car was new. As well as my colleagues. We experienced this issue almost every day.

The longest trip was 200 km without CC dropping out. Sometimes it dropped out 3 times in 10 minutes.

The dealer changed the stalk on my car but nothing happened.

Then they collected some data for Skoda factory from my DSG box. I had to go in 2 times for data reading.

Finally they get a s/w update from Skoda and applied to my car.

I can say this was a 99,9% solution for the issue.

I still have a drop out in every ~5-10.000 km but this is nothing. I can live with it.

I agree it's not a 100% fix, but it's soooooooo much better than before. It's like wearing glasses.... they don't fix your eyes but they do let you see again. Definitely better 'with' than 'without'

Mine's going in for its 1st service in a couple of weeks - others have mentioned their stalks have been replaced so we'll see if they get changed on this visit.

Aki, if it hadn't been for your persistence with both your dealer and Skoda, we'd not have got this workaround s/w update so many thanks for your efforts.

I'm happy if my action helped to others.

I had some disagreement with the dealer because the first reaction was: we can't help you...there's no error code stored in the ECU.

Finally they test-drove my car then contacted the factory.

Altogether it was 5 trip to the dealer but finally they solved the issue with the help from the factory.

Skoda fixed DSG s/w issue only in 2-3 weeks.

But You now the story :)
