Possibly eddy currents?

Featured Replies

When cruising on the motorway, I have what sounds like 'a window slightly open in the back', I think it may be the aorodynamics of the rear of the car... Is it where the air is coming up the rear and forming eddy currents (the air swirling around like an upside down waterfall as it races up the back of the car and meets the air flowing over the top of the upper spoiler, which is flowing faster at a lower pressure) underneath the rear upper spoiler as thas where the noise seems to be coming from? I dont know  if this is right or nt but would certainly explain it!!

Hmm...

cant say I've never noticed that noise. Though the zorst heat shield once came loose which sounded abit like the window being open.

Ill get that checked out at the dealers on Monday morning...

Just a few questions, please don't be insulted/offended as that's not the intention ;)

if you have a sunroof it sometimes doesn't close flush and that can cause it (we've got a sunroof in ours and it can be out by up to about 3mm I'd say). If that happens just open it slightly in the 'slide' position and then close it up again. It seems that the tilt -> close operation doesnt always close flush.

Also are you positive the windows are done up tightly in the back, even if you have a very small gap it will sound pretty 'loud' relatively speaking.

I didn't think Eddy liked currents?

:P

Eddy adores currents,so much so that it's a CURRENT AFFAIR!!!!

:hilarius:

Nah, don't like 'em or raisins or sultanas.

 Its your boom cumknockerator that vibrates on the cafiddle and sends air through to oojarcapith which needs some trifeglin lubricator to get it working again

You do find that even if the window is down 5mm from fully UP, and it appears shut, it will still whistle a good'un!

Hav't got a sunroof, checked and double checked all the windows, to be honest its not that loud, if the sterio's on quietly i cant realy hear it, just wondering if anyone else had noticed it... not that important especially as Im going to start building up my ice starting with a new Alpine 9855 head unit + ipod adaptor, nice...

My vRS genrates more wind noise than my old TDI did. I put it down to increased road noise bouncing off the hard glass sunroof rather than being absorbed by the headlining.

just turn the stereo up

Is that the tinny bit to the right of the exhaust under the back of the car held up by 2 things :o , as it actually rattles a bit now when I close my boot, could be a solution... :)

Try the trifeglin. It helps in cutting wind from the cenfartelin generator
