Ignition Coil Failed

Featured Replies

Coil went yesterday.Luckly had spare one with me.Went to local dealer Sylk Skoda Macclesfield to get old one replaced. What a joke. All mine are H,apart from one my boss(prev owner of car) which he replaced at his own cost. They said they didn't know if they could replace it and didn't have any in.Didn't had any in?Said i would like to get the others replaced f.o.c. as there is a know fault."We can't do that" they said, and the car is over 3 years old.Waiting till monday to phone them to see if they can book the car in to replace them f.o.c.

I have copied the letter about the coils which should be replaced and will fax it over to them.Going to phone Skoda Customer Services to see what the situation is about replacing these. Will put it to them nicely if i brake down somewhere and it's the coil, will send them the recovery and repair cost.

What are my chances of getting the coils replaced.

Do a search on here for this item, as it has been covered many times before. I had one go on a three year old car and all four were replaced free of charge.

Welham Green Cars (near to where the coil pack failed) told me that they only had one and could not get any more for a while, so I phoned customer services and they arranged for three new ones to go to TransCity (My nornmal dealer) on the overnight.

Really depends if the dealer wants to help or cannot be bothered.

All dealers have a bulletin which tells them on service (i.e 40k or 80k etc) or if a fault occurs to change all four coil packs should they be of the prefix f,g or h. Failed or not.

And Skoda pay for parts and labour.

Let us know how you get on with getting them replaced.

Mine went a couple of weeks ago - '03 vRS Octavia Estate - phoned the dealer - he advised calling out the breakdown service (free for 3 years with the car) - all fixed within the hour.

Gettin' nowhere at the moment............Phoned Sylk Skoda Macclesfield(not helpful in the slightest) they don't know of any problem with coil packs...Spoke to Skoda UK.They can't find the car on there system.Told them the car is imported(Motorpoint car). That's why the car isn't on there system they told me.Asked how do i get my car on system.Skoda said i need to take documents to dealer and they can do it.Asked what doc's.After a long chat they said certificate of conformity won't do will need to V5C and service book.Ok with service book but waiting for V5C to come back from DVLA with private plate change.Oh!Bit stuck.Dealer then phoned and said they can't put car on system only Skoda can do that.

Then Skoda UK said cause the car is imported they don't know what can be done?Explained if the car was(52 plate sept 02) less than 2 years old they would have to change them under there ducking warranty.

Then Skoda said i have to take it in to dealer so they can look at it(after it's on the system) before they can make a decision if they will pay.If they decide not to pay, dealer will charge me to look at it.

Dealer will charge me to see if the H coded coils are the correct onesthat need changing?Nice good will gesture by them.Guess whos getting my next service!

Skoda UK asked what i wanted from them.Told them all i want is for them to pay for fitting and replacement of coils.....Not a lot to ask!!!!

They will see what can be done.....

Not much hope me thinks!!!!!

Just a quick thought, is the car an import (do you know it is for sure?) and did you give them the original reg?

Gave them original reg and car was 1st reg in ireland.Skoda UK said they had no trace. What annoys me the most is that the car has got full service history all at Sylk Skoda apart from 1,000 and 10,000 service which was at a lexus dealer.20,000,30,000 and 40,000 mile intervals.Surely this should have been pick up at one of the services. My boss(prev owner) had a coil fail he took it to dealer who charged him for new one.

Are you in Ireland?

The chassis number should be unique no? Do Skoda UK use the GeKo System yet (the direct connection to the factory database that holds the service history of every car)?

No we arent on GeKo yet.

Are you in Ireland?

Skoda Ireland are STILL probably MONITORING THE SITUATION

No in Macclesfield Cheshire........Skoda UK have phoned me today and said i need to get my car put on the system, then they will look at it.They said it should be changed f.o.c. as its not done to Skoda its down to manufacturing fact(if that makes sense).Dealer will fill form in for Skoda to gat car on system then i will book it in to be checked.Dealer then submits claim, then have to book car in again to get work done.

Only problem.....can't take V5C to dealer as requested, until i get new one with private plate on.

At least im getting somewhere now. Thanks to Briskoda and the useful threads.
