REmaps......Technical....

Featured Replies

So i've got this "specialist vehcile" form for my new insurance cover pending remap on 24th.....

They know what i'm having done, but the form doesn't seem to have an obvious place to specify it.

ON "engine" usual stuff about cpacity etc, but then it asks about "compression ratio" and the turbo.....

well, IIRC, that actually remains unchanged right? Certainly the turbo does....

Gonna ring them to check about this tmr, but anyone shd any light on what a remap actually does? (probably should be in another forum......)

Most insurance companies don't understand "remap", but if you say "chip" they do understand...

All the remap is doing to your car is altering the fuelling and timing curves, as well as the boost pressure curve for good measure - in simple terms, it's like upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP - different operating system! No change in any of the hardware, and certainly no change in the compression ratio!
