Hammond says it had a reputation for occasionally back-firing thru the carbs and starting engine fires.

M'learned friends (And associated technical experts) are going to have some fun with this.

The son knows about making cars smoke though. (allegedly)

Ok, I'm no expert on the effects of "wrong grade of plugs", but surely they only cause issues WHEN the engine is running? We seem to have an admisson that the vehicle was left unattended with the engine running (or at minimum to use of a hand-held cell whilst the engine was running) in the report.

The newspaper article wording and the story is all a bit short on facts.

'provided with the keys to the vehicle'.

? Does that mean he walked in, got handed the keys, got in the car and started it and headed off into London & only go 1 mile?

So the car was collected, and was on its way into London.

Within a Mile of the Garage.

It does not say if it did 10 miles out and about all around the garage and then was still only 1 miles from it.

Maybe a Hot/ Warmed up Road Tested car was collected, then taken for a wee test run.

No idea what happened, but i doubt a Cold Started car will have the issues only 1 mile after starting because of the Wrong Temperature of

Spark Plugs.

But that is what the Court Case will find out or make a ruling on.

PS

'Mr Hunt's son then proceeded to drive off with a view to returning to the garage'.

Is that the same as was turning around and going back to the garage?

nearly cried to see an SV in flames,  strangely the story the same day about the Mclaren P1 wrecked in the US didn't affect me at all.

Suing for loss of use of the car?

He dropped it off 19th December and picked it up 5th April.  Ok, it's Winter but he was happy to have no use of it for 3.5 months.

385bhp on 1960's tech tyres in the winter months.  I think it was safer in a garage somewhere.
