Bleeding brakes.....I mean brake bleeding

Featured Replies

Hi guys

Anyone got a pressure bleeder near Swindon or Bicester please?

I need to bleed my PB brakes once I've fitted them!

I'll cross your palm with silver ;-)

Have a look for the Gunson system it's presurised and runs off a spare wheel and works a treat

Done mine with it only about £20

Best way to bleed big brakes is with engine running get a lovely firm peddle its the abs thats the problem.

Mine got torched along with garage contents, otherwise you would have been welcome to it. But quite honestly, as long as there is two of you, you really don't need one. I know many people go wrong using the old method (or so forums would lead you to believe), but the trick is to release the pedal SLOWLY. Very important, that.

I'm not quite so in favour of bleeding the brakes the old fashioned way, because in so doing the master cylinder pistons are pushed to places they've never been before. As mentioned above though the trick is to make sure you allow time for the master cylinder to recover when letting the pedal up. Pushing the pedal back and forth too quickly will get you nowhere fast.

The Gunson Easy Bleed tool is very simple to use by a single person, and does the job easily and completely.

I bleed\replace brake fluid with my gf in the supermarker parking lot every 12-15 months....never had a problem.

She push the brake pedal max 2/3 of the traver and slow. And yes,I'm a certified mechanic

Cool guys

I'll get a gunson easy bleed and try that way!

Cheers

Remember to stick to a maximum of 9psi.

Mine says 20psi. I've always done that and have never had a problem.

Your bleeder may say 20psi. Your vehicle specs will suggest otherwise. Seriously, 10psi is generally considered maximum for domestic cars, and there is absolutely no reason to exceed 9psi.

I do it at about 5 psi, more than enough to feed the fluid through,

I did it today at 10-12 psi,we'll see soon enough if anythings buggered! ;-)

It was a V@*xh@11 this happened to, but I've seen the master cylinder seals being reversed by doing it the old-fashioned way!

Er, if you need to bleed your brakes that often you most assuredly do have a problem.

Awesome deduction...I change brake fluid that often, because I want to

Besides which, what with brake fluid being hygrascopic an' all, who are we to judge how often brake fluid should be changed in other countries/climates/levels of humidity etc.

Changing brake fluid every two years is most definitely noticeable and advantageous (as a motorcyclist you REALLY notice the difference) so every 12-15 months is hardly overkill.
