Alloys....pay for refurb or diy

Featured Replies

They're not that bad but would like them good, there's a guy near me that'll do 4 for 100, he either comes to you or you go there. Or get good paint ect and diy, thing is, I'm sure powder or stoved will be better than any paint

That depends on how good a job you can do and what your time is worth to yourself as it is very time consuming to do a decent job.

I would say £40 a wheel is a good price .... £25 sounds like he just needs the money ?

Try going to one of them hydro painting companies they know their **** !

?

Some clues maybe,

what kind of wheels, what finish or colour,  maybe a picture to go with the question.

Is the Local guy, 'Wicked Wheels' or the likes, or someone on the Grip, & do others recommend him.?

Have you re-furbed wheels before or used rattle cans,

and are they not best left now until past the winter?

I'll probably him to do them fk it

Depends what kind of finish youd be happy with.

Im abit of a perfectionist.

I wouldnt even attempt it myself cos i know Id never be happy with the results i ended up with.

If running daily, I would only let a pro sort my wheels.  I recently had a crack at doing my own.  Sort of came up OK but plenty of shoddy areas that I don't care about as only going to santa pod rims, maybe for the odd long motorway journey.

Sand down, etch primer, normal primer, basecoat (had a random can of porsche alpine white) and then quite a lot of clearcoat.  Still need to wet sand and polish though, but seem just "OK"  After doing several coats of clear I realised I had managed to trap a tiny insect in the paint. :D  It will have to stay there permanently now.

Etch primed

You can get a decent finish doing it yourself but it will take around 1 day per wheel in good weather.

If you're fussy get a pro.

I'm cursed by being fussy but tight. So I try to do things myself and am never happy with the result.

Used to diy a few sets before but, don't have the time for that nowadays. Plus this isn't the weather to do it in, unless you have access to a paintshop.

Now go to the wheel Specialist for a first class finish and meantime you get on with doing other things in your life.

I just paid 200 for mine doing chap came highly recommended and did a brill job!

Think 200s about the going rate tbh or there abouts :)

Think the white rim looks really good, been thinking about white for my own rims hyper silver at the moment.
