New seats from an A3 but different airbag connectors...

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

This weekend I picked up a pair of seats I won on Ebay. Ive cleaned the seats up and am now giving thought to the fitment. This is the problem...

The plugs on the seats for the airbags are different to my 2002 Octavia ones. The seats came from a 2003 A3 Quattro Sport.

Has anyone managed to rewire the plugs to suit the Skoda? I was advised yesterday that this shouldnt be attempted as its possible to set off the airbags (as one of the wires is the trigger wire) but surely if I disconnect the car battery for an hour before starting its just a case of actually finding out the correct wiring changes?

I really hope I can resolve this as I love the new seats to bits! :P

Thanks in advance,

Lee

It's fairly straight forward, best bet is new connectors and wires though rather than reusing yours. You just need to match the pin arrangement and the colours are usually obvious.

Eddy - have you actually had to do this yourself out of interest? So if the colours are the same its obviously easier but if they are not? :( Surely Im not the first to do this little mod? Thanks for the reply :)

I've done it but it was about a year ago on the recaros I had before the R32 seats (the R32 seats were fine) so can't remember exactly. DaveH is currently doing this to his so maybe worth PM'ing him.

Thank you Eddy

PM sent but for everyone elses info:

I guess there are two ways to connect your seats 1) make an adapter loom or 2) cut your plugs off and put the right ones on. I shouldn't worry about triggering the airbag, it must trigger with a voltage signal as i have had all three airbag wires touching one another numerous times and no problems. Just make sure everything is off when working on them.

For 1) I should have a look at this and maybe contact the bloke, I'm sure he'd help:

For 2) what you need are 2 x part no. 6X0 972 783 (listed as 'electrical plug' or something equally as helpful on the VW parts computer) and 3 x part no. 000 979 132A. These are the connector plastic outer and short (double ended) wires with push fit pins. In terms of wiring, the colour of the 3 wires on my new seats matched those of my old octavia ones so with a little soldering it was just a case of placing them in the connector outer in the same order as the old seats. Total cost from the VW garage,
