Lights overview

Featured Replies

Silly question but here goes...just bought the Skoda Superb se auto today, getting to grips with it but I don't understand the lights.

To me 0 means no lights, auto means auto lights, the next one in the dial is side lights and the last main beam..

But I have lights coming on when it's on 0 which is confusing me. These come on in daylight and it's annoying. I can't get in the situation where no lights on when driving..day or night..

Are they the small DRL daytime running lights similar to the fog light. I tink they can be deactivated using the maxidot menu.

What year is your car?

Car is 2009, I had the fogs coming on with the small lights.

On a 2009 your car is right on the crossover.

Pre-2009 MkII Superb's did not have DRL's (Daytime Running Lights). These were fitted from 2009 onwards.

However some early MkII Superb's had the dipped headlights set to perform the role of DRL's from the factory.

Do your front foglight clusters look like this? The inner section is the front fog light, the outer section is the DRL...

On earlier vehicles, the DRL section is blanked off...

DRL's are only ON when all other lights (sidelights and dipped headlights) are OFF.

As soon as you turn on the sidelights or dipped headlights (or the car turns them on for you when in AUTO), then the DRL's go out.

Also be aware that the Superb has cornering fog lights. When the dipped headlights are on and the steering wheel is turned or the indicators are turned on (only at speeds under 40kph) the front fog light light on that side fades in and out.

Thanks guys, in the end I finally wondered into the maxi dot and managed to turn those lights off.

Each to their own I guess but I like the DRL's, a nice little safety feature.

It's almost now like cars without DRL's are in the minority, making them less visible when amongst the myriad of modern cars with them turned on.

You got a point silver. In my case I've never had DRLs so felt a bit weird having them on, plus I'm a bit paranoid as it's my first Skoda and bought second hand so thought might be something wrong somewhere at first. Also blew a bulb so wondered if it was related.

I do like the come home lights though.

Have you noticed the cornering fog light function? I really like this too (although it does divide opinion on here!).

At speeds below 40kph and with dipped headlights turned on when you turn the steering wheel or turn on the indicator the fog light on that side lights up.

Not so beneficial in well lit urban environments but pretty useful when out in the country on rural roads.
