Winter kit & product storage

Featured Replies

I'll bet this gets asked every year, and is probably a running joke, but what do you guys do with your kit over winter?  I dont really have space for everything inside, so at present everything is stored in a detached garage.

Discussion welcome, but the two areas of concern would be the Pressure washer & Detailing products.

All liquids come inside when the temp gets to freezing. Pressure washer gets wrapped in old bath towels & bed sheets.

After detatching the hosepipe I run the PW until there's no water left in it then switch it off straight away. It was in the instructions of the 1st one I bought years ago so I've carried on doing it. I've not thought about the products themselves, though valetpro snowfoam starts to seperate at low temperatures so If I'm using that I store it inside.

I should probably bring some stuff in but never get around to it. Although I have put my artdeshine repel coat in my sock drawer so it doesn't get damaged by the frost. I run the pressure washer dry every time I use it, so that should be okay. But I like the idea of wrapping it to be on the safe side. At least the waxes like the cold.

Extremes of temperature aren't good for most car products and my detached garage has been down to -12C and up to nearly 40C in recent years. I'm lucky to have storage space inside the house for products and washer...so that's where they are!

Mine comes inside when temperatures are below freezing

I always run all the water out of the PW anyway..but it then comes into the house when I need to

hmm. will have to see if i can re-jig to free up some space inside.  Reckon I can get by without a fridge?

Will have to do a little kit audit and see what liquids I have, and how many of those I can find a place for inside.  Think the decon remover types are staying out though, those things hum.

Anyone have any suggestions for bags, totes or the like that will keep decent size spray bottles upright?

Waxes and other liquids stay in the garage..after all,  I keep some waxes in the fridge anyway....Zaino Zymol Titanium for example

The VP snow foam goes quite thick...but a shake soon sorts it out.

IMO...just use common sense...particularly regarding the Pressure washer/s

..Products....I dont bother

EDIT: I, of course, meant Zymol not Zaino as most of you with a knowledge of these products, reading the post, undoubtedly realised

Is that another one of your cobbled together waxes :D

I meant Zymol. As you know I did

A good while ago now I bought a couple of these totes as an alternative to the overpriced offering from Dodo Juice and others.  At £20 a piece they have stood up fantastically and are brilliant for carting a large chunk of kit out to the car for a detail (I can get close to 15 bottles in there with accessories around the outside. That way you aren't trailing backwards and forwards to the garage or house but equally if you have somewhere to pop a bottle when you are done with it, you will work tidier not have product strewn around the outside of your car as you go.

Only a little joke hense the smiley. I wondered if you had mixed up waxes again, like your previous post where you made some sort of cobbled together mixture ;)

Zaino & Zymol could be the next one maybe?

Agree Mark

I have this Maplin bag...had a at least 3 years or possiibly more

I also have a larger Makita one...Both very useful

If you need to bring your liquids inside..very easy and tidys things up

+ I sometimes travel to do some detailing..nothing better to carry everything around in

I really am sick and tired of your nonsense.

Every opportunity you get to have a go at me, you seize it

All you had to say was, "You mean Zymol Chris"...No..You cant do that

I hadn’t wanted to go public...BUT you have forced my hand

If you haven’t anything useful to say.... just stay out of the thread and keep your BS to yourself

Sorry, I don't understand. Was it not you who mixed different waxes together? I assumed you had done the same again as I think the Zanio & Zymol would have been a good one?

I thought I had contributed to the thread, well others must think so as I have received thanks from them.

Good day

I keep all my car cleaning gear in the airing cupboard as it has a nice little(big) shelf. It doesn't actually get hot in there though so its all good. I left my SRP in the garage last year and it turned runny like water!

The pressure washer stays the in the garage once empty and I've not had an issue with it getting frost damage (Its 4 years old now)

A little off topic but on the thoughts of detailing bags, does anyone have a recommendation for a polisher bag? My better half has bought me a DA-21 for Christmas so I need something to store/carry it around in. Your thoughts are welcomed....

Just check dimensions, but should be ok http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/kestrel-storage-holdall.html
