My VRS estate has recently developed a metallic "clunk" sound when I'm traversing bumps/potholes (at a sensible speed).

 

To get to my place of work I have to navigate over a series of 10 speed bumps which I go over about 4 times a day so I know this will take its toll, I've been there for 6 months and the car has now developed this sound and I don't like the idea of having to replace suspension components twice a year!

 

The sound seems to happen once per side after the suspension has been left to settle and then it seems to be okay.

 

Any ideas what this could be? Drop links, top mounts?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

Is the car standard? Does it have an ABR fitted?

Yeah it's completely standard at the moment

probably bushes / drop links ect ... get it checked, then (personally) I would replace the worn ones with polybushes for longevity

Getting it checked this week, I did hit a bad pothole over the weekend which seems to have made it worse, as well as putting a bulge in one of the the 2000 mile old Michelin ps3's so that will need replacing.

I could be way off but might it just be DSG rattle which as far as I know all vRS's suffer from.

No all of them do not. Or they would all do it. Some do.

When going over speed humps or rougher surfaces at slower speeds I just get a bit of ratttle from the gearbox, nothing major just a rattle. Mine has always done it and most of the time i don't notice it. 24k in and I still love my vRS 

Many have had it from their cars, it is just that not all have,

and owners should probably have not accepted being told by Skoda, VW, Audi or Seat that 'They all do that'.

Because that was & is a lie.  

They just design and build badly sometimes and Quality Control, and what they tell Customers is suspect.

If you look at Neils Topics & the rubbish Skoda Techs told him it is unbelievable.

He got a new Gearbox in the end i think.
