Fog lamp bulb

Featured Replies

Along with the need for a new windscreen (see other post) I need to change a front fog lamp bulb as one has failed, is there any tricks of the trade I need to know or is it straight forward?

Thanks,

Steve.

Instructions are in the manual, have you seen that?

Thanks Urrell, will get to the manual tomorrow, just wondered if others had done this job already and found difficulties/tricks etc.

Fairly easy on a pre-facelift Yeti, but you do need small(ish) hands.

If you have cornering fogs, why not replace both bulbs with uprated Philips Xtreme Vision PLUS bulbs? You'll really appreciate the difference. Good value at the moment from Euro Car Parts, and v quick delivery.

That sounds a good plan, thanks, speedsport.

Don't seem too difficult to change but I can't find the spec in the hand book. I think they are 477 H7s but not 100%sure, how do I find out?

Correct, H7 bulbs.

They were listed in the Handbook at one stage.

Thanks Llanigraham, it's the sort of info that should be fairly prominent in the book but I'll be blowed if it's there now! (Then again, having just passed the 60 mark it maybe failing eyesight).

I had to change mine the other week. I was told with Xenon bulbs you need to change them as a pair - I did don't know if its true - but I have one emergency spare now! The bulbs clip in and out in seconds if you get them at the right angle - took me about 20 minutes to get the angle right.

I think I'll order a pair as above and find out how easy they are to replace when they arrive.

I hope you have a pre-facelift Yeti, as the following refers to that model.

IIRC drivers side took a couple of minutes, passenger side somewhat longer due to tight access. Do the drivers side first where you have most room (a mirror can be handy) & carefully note exactly how the spring clip fastens the bulb in, and which way up the bulb was located. Then do the same for the other side.

Make sure each bulb is correctly seated or the alignment will be adrift, though in theory you shouldn't be able to reattach the wire clip if it's not correct.

Thank speedsport, yes it's a pre FL. Bulbs not arrived yet and weather not conducive to bulb changes so there will be a delay but your suggestions are very welcome.

New bulbs have arrived so I thought I would change the blown one. Removed the rubber cover, pulled the connector block and the bulb came out still attached. Success I thought, but, I didn't then know how to deal with the "clip" or fastening for the bulb as I hadn't had to remove it! Never mind, I changed bulbs over, pushed it back into the hole, checked it from the outside, made sure it wasn't loose and put the rubber cover back. Switched on - success! Changed in 2 minutes, guess the one on the left will not be so easy due to restricted access. Must find out how the bulbs are held in some time.
