Making your own wax?

Featured Replies

Hi guys :).

I was happy using 'dodo juice supernatural' on the car and bike. I like it, it seems to last ages and gives good results.

However, the weathers gone rubbish, im working about 70 hours a week and i cant fit the car in the garage so it has to live on the drive.

The dodo juice eventually wore off and i cant reapply myself for the above reasons.

So i booked in at the local detailers (never used him or any other detailers before) whos sorted it out, done all the necessary steps and finished off with some wax.

Now then, the wax appears to be something hes either had made, or made himself. He is selling it in tubs with his own label on.

Which got me thinking. Is it really that easy to make a decent wax yourself? He raves about this stuff (as he would), claims itll last 10 months etc etc.

It all sounds abit far fetched to me? Surely it cant be that easy?

Its on the car now anyway. So i guess I'll just have to see how it goes.

It is giving some pretty good beading at the moment, but not as good as the dodo juice does IMO.

Opinions please?

Cheers guys :).

  • This would be my recommendation for red:   http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/wax/victoria-wax/victoria-wax-3oz-concours-wax/prod_312.html

  • In case it wasn't entirely clear Chris I was 99.9% agreeing with you on coloured waxes.  The colour of the wax is largely irrelevant.   Are you really sayiing you have never seen a difference in fin

  • Probably made for him by one of the larger wax manufacturers. Take a look on Detailing World but leave your credit card out of arms reach. Jack will agree on that bit

Could it be a sheeting designed type of wax

Could it be a sheeting designed type of wax

How dya mean mate?

One wax, many labels? Kinda thing?

Noo I meant as in was the wax sheeting the water instead of beading. That could be an alternate option too tbh is it just a relabelled wax

More than an arms reach, I've spent a fortune this month.

Ah i see haha.

Its not sheeting no. Its defo beading.

I've just had a look out the window and the water is beading up and running off nicely. Maybe not quite as well as the dodojuice though.

10 months though? Bold statement isnt it? I've heard people quote swissvax for less than that? Haha.

Soft99 Fusso dark lasts 12 months

Ahh right. I wonder if thats what it is.

He speaks of it like he develops it himself, but when questioned replied 'well i dont personally make it in my kitchen, no'

aha.

there is a home brew section on the subject on detailing world, so people must be doing it, and plenty to read there if you are so inclined. Not for me though, barely have time to clean the thing without going all mad scientist developing a wax.

there is (or was) a homebrew section section on the waxamomo site, so the ingredients are commonly available...........(go on, you know you want to)

and yes, leave all payment facilities with an appropriate adult before you visit detailing world, shiny things aplenty.

I shall take a look :). Cheers!

Ooh dont worry. I wont be spending anything. I've only just spent £150 on him doing it haha.

I think he sells the wax on for about £20 a tub. So its clearly nothing too special.

I paid that for some lovely AF Temptation that I can't stop smelling

Got my BMD Morpheus today hoping Obsession Aura will come tomorrow

I need a decent wax for bright red paint.

Doesnt matter how hard wearing. Just the best shine possible.

Doesnt even matter how hard it is to work, because its for the bike so the area isnt massive.

I'll be having a search for something soon (:

You dont mention your budget

So Im guessing you dont want to pay too much

So......Collinite 845

Get it HERE for quick delivery

Cheers chris! I'll take a look at that now (:

Budget. Dont mind too much. Its only for the bike so often a sample tub is enough for many applications.

Which leaves me open to much more expensive waxes doesnt it haha

You might want to consider this then:

A paste Sealant with anti rust properties and more durable than Collinite:

Bilt Hamber Autobalm

Again buy HERE

Corrosion isnt really an issue if in honest. Although I didnt realise a wax could have those properties haha.

90% of the painted bits that id wax are plastic. Theres only really the tank, and that doesnt suffer from stone chips as its obviously not at the front

FK1000P which is very durable, plus as its high temp then you can seal your bike wheels with it also. Massive tin for the money. http://www.shopnshine.co.uk/finish-kare-hi-temp-paste-wax-1000p

Yet again, i didnt know you could get such a thing! Cheers!

Worth considering defo.

Im sure the lube off the chain would soon fling off and sort that out though lol.

I've got supernatural on there atm, but i havent ridden it yet cos its winter.

Just thinking something that really brings the shine out of the red. Wet look, showroom kinda thing.

Its in the garage, so i tend to tinker and clean a lot with it. So how long it lasts doesnt really matter.

Who was the detailer out of interest?

Just to add Otaylor38 to the recent recommendation of Victoria Wax..in case theres confusion

Just because a wax is the colour of your bike or car, that doesnt mean that its made for that colour

VC is a very good easy on and off wax for ALL car colours

If you were feeling flush RaceGlaze 55 looks epic on solid colours.  A real wax lovers wax.
