Hi guys, I blew the standard KKK turbo up on my 2007 mk1 Vrs. Looking at te possibility of upgrading rather than replacing and I've come across a couple of options.

A standard pd150 garret from dark side, would this fit my car and would I get decent gains after a map?

Or a hybrid gt1749 from Xman on eBay, my mechanic has said he'd avoid this due to lack of warranty and how few hes sold.

As you can probably see my budget for the turbo itself is around £500 plus or minus a few quid haha, and I'm really not sure what to go for.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Sorry to double post but I forgot to add, the plan is to fit a new turbo and get it remapped & serviced. I bought the car with a remap and I'm not too keen on the way it's mapped. Seen the oppertunity to upgrade for a few more ponies but don't know where to start haha.

Yeah Xman has sold a lot on here, other forums and Ebay. I've heard about a couple of 'bad ones' but they were sorted.

If your after a simpe plug in upgrade then contact XMan about his billet hybrid version. Mapping one at the minute and it's looking to be a very good turbo. Comes on boost well and is recommended up to 2bar of boost. Will also need a 4bar MAP sensor and also pd150 head bolts.

Okay so everybody seems to like xman's turbos, would anybody be able to post some links towards turbos that'll fit my car? I've done a quick search on here but I can't quite find what I'm looking for!

Was in the same boat as you a few weeks ago. A pd150 will fit straight on bar turning the inlet housing round. 5 mins job. I got mine from dark side and its 550 plus vat.

in Manchester thee are guys who can get it fitted, adjusted and mapped for you: TDI Custom Remaps or if you do fitting yourself faboka (hiddenpower) can take care of remap for you...

Bit far for me. Was going to offer you a hand getting the old one off if you where from south london

I'm running a GT1749 bought from xman750. He had it done specifically for my BLT engine so I still have my EGR.

I was very nervous given he's sourcing the turbos in Eastern Europe but so far it's been fine. It was fitted by a Skoda dealer and apart from having to clock the turbo (normal with Garrett hybrids on Fabias) it went straight on and it runs fine without a remap.

I've purchased a gt17/52 hybrid off xman750 cheers for all the help people, hopefully have it fitted and remapped by Monday or Tuesday! Will post results.
