dodgy electric problem.

Featured Replies

Hi Folks , new to here so mtmu all.

Got a weird problem with my Octavia 2005 tdi Classic. Its been a great car , so far, in the 9 months that I`ve owned it.

Yesterday afternoon, on the way back from work, pressed the window to lower it and it didn't respond. Tried it a couple of times but nothing. Then I tried the passenger window and it worked. Well I thought to myself "dodgy switch". Arrived home in the dark and thought it have a look on here to get some advice. Went out to the car a fews hours later, the wind was getting up so wanted to move it to shelter from possible pending snow. Well found the car with both front windows fully down and the car soaked. Oh Sugar!!

Got the passenger window up but the drivers one would budge. Covered the car with a tarp and left it till this morning.

I found out on here that when using the key manually to lock the car, and hold the key in the lock position, the windows will close automatically if open. Well I tried this and the drivers window closed shut. Sorted! I thought I would get away with driving the car as long as I didn't use the drivers window. But heres the crazy thing. When I unlock the car using the key both window stay down but as soon as I turn the key in the ignition, the drivers window comes down without touching the switch.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

get the car scanned with vcds

I've had similar electric window problems, they were due to water getting into the drivers door switches.  As eddy says, first thing get the car scanned, it will help to pin point the problem.
