I lost my indicator function yesterday. Car was working ok then for no apparent reason indicators stopped functioning. Hazard's worked ok.

Switched the car off and left it for 30 mins - started it back up and indicators worked.

Any ideas what the problem could be???

Seriously though most indicator issues involve the steering column controller (the indicator stalk plugs into this).

 

I'd keep an eye on it to see if it does it again.

 

If you get the chance get the car scanned to see if any fault codes have been stored.

Apologies I did get the BMW reference - I've had a long day and my brain is switching off at the mo!

Totally agree about the BMW drivers - although Audi driver's seem to be challenging them for the crown of complete be*lends!!

Is this a terminal thing that will progressively become more of an issue or could it be just a one-off?? The reason why I ask is that my car being in a faultless condition is vital for my job so if I've got to spend the cash to sort it I'd rather do so??

I wouldn't worry at this point.

 

Modern cars are quite complicated, especially electrically and they sometimes have a wobble.

 

The fact that you turned off the ignition (and reset the system) and the problem disappeared would make me feel better.

 

If however it happens again then that would suggest there is a recurring issue.

 

There are issues with the indicator stalks (moving the lever to indicate one way but the opposite side indicators light up) which is down to a faulty stalk and there have been reports of the front passenger side indicator lighting up and staying on even after the keys are removed which is to do with water ingress in to the BCM.

 

Sit tight and wait and see what happens would be my advice.
