Couple of servicing questions....

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a couple of servicing questions to ask about.....

On the maxidot under the vehicle info section the car says the next service is due in something like 27 days and 6300 miles. (I haven't had the car reminding me that the service is due as yet i only see this if i manually select the info in maxidot). I've only had the car since June so this is the first service it has needed under my ownership. So i called in at the dealers yesterday to see how much i'd be looking at etc....

Also the car is only on 34k so the DSG service isn't due yet and i'm going to have that done seperately mid 2015 when it's nearer 40k... And also i've had it confirmed by Skoda UK that the cambelt isn't due till 5 years (November 2015).

So..... anyway the first question is..... Is there a way to confirm if it's on fixed or variable servicing??? I asked the service guy who had a look in the service book in the glovebox and said it looked to be on variable as the car has only had 2 services previously, (It was registered November 2010), One at a year old and at 9644 miles and the second at 26 months and 20,182 miles and where it says next service due in the service book it has had "refer to dash" written in each time rather than a date or mileage. Does this sound right???  Since i called in to the dealers i did notice that there is a QG1 code on the sticker in the front of the service book which points to it being on variable so i guess i have maybe answered my own question??? The vehicle was originally a motability vehicle so i'm wondering if it is indeed on variable but that motability had the car sent for servicing before it was actually due for the first two services with them being around or just over 12 month intervals etc....

Secondly from what he said it sounds like they would just give it a routine minor service as he said it would just be oil and filter change, pollen filter change and a general brake & suspension inspection. Does this sound right at 4 years??? Bearing in mind what i mentioned above regarding the DSG and cambelt not being due yet. I would have thought the brake fluid would be due at four years at least???

If that does seem about right then i may well have it done at my local VW specialist as the dealer wanted £215 and i know my specialist only charges £99 for the same minor service.

Cheers for any advice....

i think the brake fluid is every 2 years dave, id go to the independent if i was you and avoid the stealers

I think the first brake fluid is now at 3 then every 2    sounds like it got a good start then dropped back to variable-not good---I would get the oil etc and brake fluid done now and then go nominally annually from there if your planning to keep it longterm

Brake fluid is first at 3 years then every 2.

If you do a service on it now without the service reminder you will need to instigate the reminder with VCDS (change the due mileage to 0) then reset it using the method of holding the button etc and it will automatically reset to fixed servicing.

I also think it should be a "major" service this time. Best to check whats due by the manual.

Have a look in your sevice book or at the sticker under the boot floor.

Somewhere in all the coding (I am at work now so cannot check) you will find either QG0 or QG1

QG0 is for fixed servicing and QG1 is for variable.

Forgot, it could be QI6 for every 2 years or 20k miles approx

My dealers charge £34.99 all in for a brake fluid change

Sent from my Galaxy S5

When Simeon scanned your car with vag/com he would have emailed your log, it should show in there?

Just whatsapp Simeon, it does not show on your Log

Ok.... So it looks like it's on variable then.....

So onto the second part of the question.... What should be done on a variable service car with 34k on the clock and four years old??? Just an inspection and oil/filter change or something more comprehensive??? (DSG and Cambelt not due till mid and end of 2015 respectively).

By the way the brake fluid was done at two years so is due this service.

For me id do the above with pollen filter and fuel filter ,don't pay more than £35 for brake fluid change

All now sorted.....

Called in to Autohaus Dolby this lunchtime and had a word with the guru that is Matt. :)

He had a check in the service book and it looks like it's first visit was only literally an inspection and then the second visit to the dealers was for a minor service. So he suggested giving it a major service this time around along with the brake fluid change that is due what with it originally being done after two years rather than three years as it should have been.

So it's having a major service and the brake fluid change for £200 which is less than the dealers wanted for just the minor service without the brake fluid change.

Nice one Dave

Do they have a waiting area?

I might go here for my Cambelt in Feb

  • Author

There is a small waiting area Chris.... And Meadowhell is a mile or so away..... if you fancied a wander etc...

...or I get my daughter to pick me up...She lives in S10

They have a couple of Ups for customer use too that's what I use.

  • 3 weeks later...

Late to this thread, but the Arena/Don Valley stadium tram stop is only 5 mins walk from Autohaus Dolby, so if I've time to kill, I normally nip to Meadowhell, or back into town for a bite to eat/a coffee and they'll ring me when there's only half an hour or so left to wait, so I can get back in good time.

The courtesy Ups they have seem to be very popular, but they'll sort you an appointment around when they're available if you need one.
