how many miles for your £5 VRS

Featured Replies

Gonna sound like a tight arse but last week I noticed I was using more fuel than normal and that I've lost some power.

I've had it on a scanner and I've a knackered fuel temp sensor and I think a boost leak as I hear a whoosh that sounds like it's the front right at the bottom.

Put a fiver in on Monday being tight and I've got 22 miles out of it and now the light is back on.

I wouldn't say I'm light footed but I stick to the speed limits just get there a bit quick. Mainly 30 roads the odd 40 and 50 road.

So the question is as the title says!

Then I might need some help!

Cheers

Cold weather

the above, and the anticoagulant they put in the fuel in winter will not help.  A fivers worth of fuel suggests short journies and the engine never warming up properly, which is when engine is at its most efficient.

Who the hell puts £5 in a diesel?

Especially with how low the fuel prices are at the minute !!

To answer the question i usually put £20 in and if driving sensibly i get 150 miles if i boot it everywhere about 100. So £5 = anywhere between 25 and 37.5 miles. Hope this helps.

Thanks... seems about right then. Just seemed a bit low when I can put £10 in the 1.8t gti and get better mpg

Diesels are no good for short journeys mate. They don't give good MPG untill they are up too operating temperature so having a diesel to do 2 miles is pretty pointless lol

This also is with a remap that didn't really consider fuel consumption. Before the map i was seeing a bit more

Fuel is cheap at the moment, fill that tank!

I generally top up with £25 and that gets me just over 200 miles with mixed driving and (too many) short journeys. So, 40 miles to a fiver would be about it for mine.

At £5 you're putting in less than a gallon of fuel. So with the winter additives as advised above, your driving style, plus 3.5ish litres of fuel, 22 miles isn't all that far off I reckon.

Just checked 3 years worth of fuel app and the closest I can get is 74 miles for £10 for town driving. I fill up nearly every time I need fuel so have no data for a &5 top up :p

£5 is near enough a gallon so I'd imagine you'd get 40-50 miles?

Haha I would of done if the car hadn't of cost me 200 to get road worthy and I hadn't burnt 40 in a weekend running the brother about.. I hate not having at least half a tank in but with then costs and then it's my son's, daughters, mothers bday then xmas this month I can't go on a filling spree the misses would castrate me ;)

I know the feeling recently! Car always first when I was with my ex but new missus before the car now and I'm taking a hit on my wallet but we're both happy!

I've just had mine MOT'd. 4 tyres. Tax and insurance is due! Not to mention the fortune I've spent on xmas presents lol!!

Mine isn't warm or even showing temp on the gauge at all, in just two miles. Usually takes four before it's at proper running temp and that's only if you have been warming it progressively/properly. In the winter (frosty or snowing) it can be as much as five or six miles if everyone is bimbling along at 20-25 mph.
