Any vag techs on here

Featured Replies

Hi all I'm after a vag tech or anyone who does regular vag timing belts .... I picked up my new vrs a few weeks ago a 56 plate with 59k full history but no proof of ever having a belt so this Morning I put a belt on her just to be safe ... All went as it should apart from one thing when replacing the idler I found that I would not sit back in to the block ... Anyone who dose a few of these will be able to recall there is a recess in the block and a ridge on the idler which sits into the block ... Now when I slid the idler down the stud it would not line up with the hole on the block for it to go in as if the tension of the old belt had over time bent the stud back ... I managed to pull and poke then just wind it on and get it to sit right .... Has anyone ever come a cross this before ??? Thanks in advance

Didn't the new cam belt kit come with a new stud for the idler? AFAIK the stud should be replaced during the belt change.

Nope there was only one stud in the kit for the tensioner not the idler ..... I managed to get it on in the end but it dident fill me with confidence could see the belt jumping off straight away ... Which it hasent YET and Iv done about 100 mile since so let's hope it last .... Cheers for your response

Did you get a genuine t/belt kit or aftermarket? Think the aftermarkets don't include all studs etc, I would just check your tension after 200 miles say and if its still alright then should be ok. Although its not something to be ****ing about with because if the stud snaps its an interference engine so could then be forking out for a replacement engine or rebuild. Ive never came across an issue like this before but sounds like sods law....hopefully will be ok for you.
