Featured Replies

Hey guys as the title says, I'm going to be changing my head gasket after Christmas, just wondering what i need for this job, obiously a new gasket, but what else is needed for the job?

Cheers Guys

Head bolts as well and change your cambelts and water pump while you're at it.

specialist tools required for cam belt and water pump?

See if you can buy a head gasket kit. They can come with all other gaskets for inlet, exhaust and thermostat housings if needed as well as head bolts and other seals.

Just check what it contains first as some head gasket sets don't actually come with a head gasket.

Yes, you shouldn't need to remove the manifolding to change the head gasket, lift the head off with all manifolding still attached, gives you more to grab hold of as well, most all the components apart from the exhaust manifold use o rings rather than gaskets which can often be reused.

However you don't say why you're changing it, HG failure is VERY rare on the 1.4 16v and if you've cooked it up that badly then the head is probably warped and will need skimming.

Don't forget to change the oil . Coolant will get into the oil when the head comes off.
