vrs tuning box opinions and experiences

Featured Replies

Alright guys, thinking about a tuning box for my vrs and as above just wondering what people's experience with them are? If its worth the purchase and if it does what it says on the tin etc

I have seen a few on ebay so also if people have any recommendations

Cheers

Well i can say my dad had one on his Passat pd130 whilst mine was mapped properly and mine **** all over his. They generally just increase fueling and boost so I've heard. Pay a bit extra and get it properly custom mapped by somebody who can read what the car is doing and map it accordingly. I always think how can you make a tuning box for a specific car when every car is different. Just my two cents :)

i had 1 on my peugeot 206 hdi gti they just increase pressure on the rail forcing more fuel through making it smoke like hell a remap is much better

Read that Shark Performance STS self tuning box is apparently good?! They send you a box and it records the vehicles current MAP. You email it to them and they send you back a uprated MA, plug and play and can revert back to original MAP if you please.

If anyone else has had a experience with these please chirp in! Id like know if they are atually worth it,

But obviously a custom MAP is the best idea because its tailored to your motor. :D

Customs maps are ideal as you can ensure everything is working correctly such as boost control.

Tuning boxes generally just increase fuelling by X % across the entire Rev range. Crued but effective although personally I would log group 11 after fitting one to check the boost is still controlled.

A remap you can fine tune the fuelling at rpm set points. Control over smoke maps, boost maps, duration, start of injection etc etc.

Cheers for the replys, I understand a remap is much better and I would do that if I could afford it (my last custom map on my golf turbo was £400). At the moment I was looking at tuning boxes only for the reason they are a fraction of the price and heard a few people go on about them. I'll just leave getting one tbh, I have learned my lesson lol.

P.s If I went for remap how much would I be looking at? Should I go for generic or custom?

Message faboka, his maps are very very good and very reasonably priced!

Had a Dragon Digital tuning box on mine for over a year.  Eventually sold it and got a Shark Remap. (via their SDS box).  No comparison.  The box was ok, you did get more oomph, but nothing like the smoothness and driveability of a proper remap.

Another plus here for Faboka on here, a.k.a. Hidden Power.

Fantastic service and John is extremely attentive to giving you a brilliant map!

You do need to be able to use VCDS-Lite and MPPS to flash your ecu though. Unless you go and see him of course.

To sum it up, I think you won't find many people on here that will say a tuning box is a better idea!!

My map was done by TDI Custom Remaps Based in Manchester. Good map got them to tweak it 3 or 4 times before i was happy and it was np. Also they are reasonable priced i payed 180 and I think they're running some xmas special deals.

cheers folks, been speaking with faboka so will see what happens :)

Hi my current car is the 1.9tdi pd100 with a custom map on .i would never touch a generic map

The guy who did mine showed me exactly what he'd done on his laptop

Nice and steady power gains all the way through and then where other maps will die away near top end mine keeps going

I paid £100

Which i thought was cheap but **** me it goes.its now 144bhp

Ive given a few vrs standard a race and they given up

Funny thing is people see a bog standard fabia comfort go past them and you see their reaction its well worth the money

Custom all the way
