"Your route has been altered..." repeatedly.

Featured Replies

I've been on the northern section of the M25 twice this year and both times the navigation lady (I call her Mildred but I've seen others call her Helga) starts saying "Your route has been altered because of the current traffic situation" or words to that effect, you know the one.

This message starts being issued maybe ten minutes apart but gradually increases frequency until it's almost continuous. The other directions are correct.

I've also noticed that the centre section of the Maxi Dot display fades to black and instantly reappears as the message starts. This should be a big clue but I can't link the events.

This only happens on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the north-west section of the M25 and lasts for 25 miles or so until I turn off at J12. In August when it happened I was using v10 maps and the other day when it happened I am now using v12 maps so it's unlikely to be those.

I'm wondering if there is some weird electronics system in use on that stretch that is upsetting Mildred? I've never experienced it anywhere else and I use the routing function on most journeys apart from the local shops just in case of traffic problems causing detours etc.

Has anyone else experienced this or am I alone?

Better still, does anyone know what causes it and can it be fixed?

I agree, bloody aanoying, especially when you are (eg in the one way system of a a large foreign city) relying on Helga. Tried all sorts such as changing dynamic announcements, but the only solution is to turn voice off. Maxidot still messes up though. I also now have co-pilot on my phone as a backup.

Buy a TomTom?  ;)
