What was that?

Featured Replies

I'm not sure what happen tonight but my fabia made a rather funny noise.

I haven't used it for over a week, so I thought I'd better start it up whilst I had in out of the cover.

Started up fine and let it run for abit before popping the bonnet. I shut the door and went around to the front whilst the engine was still running and just looked at it. All of a sudden there was a bang and crush/crash sound and the engine shook from side to side fairly badly for about 10 seconds. I raced over to the dash to see if any warning lights had come up but nothing showed up. It then settled down and idle as normal.

I turned it off left it for a bit and re-started and all seemed fine

I haven't taken it out the a drive as I didn't have time tonight what could it have been, should I be worried?

Cheers

Maybe some cr4p from the fuel trying to be filtered into the injection system? Still, even if there's no lights on, a fault may have been logged. Do you have en easy way to check fault codes?

Jase,

No matey dont have my own VAG COM yet and I dont know anyone local that could check it.

Hmmm maybe it was just because it had been sitting awhile, just gave me a shock at first. :o

Reminds of a Jethro joke.

Mechanic: Ma'am, you got' 5hit in the carburettor

Lady: Well, how often have I got' do that?

Guess you have to be there to find it funny? :o

For all you know it could have been the auto "choke" thinking it was a bit cold / not running well, so chucked a bit more fuel in to keep it running? Ross will know for sure I reckon.

If its any help, my PD130 started on the button after 3 or 4 months (maybe more in the breakers) of being off. Very impressed I was.

Sounds like it was about to stall (have you ever heard the bang a TDI makes when it stalls?), which makes me think the same as Jason - cr@p in the fuel.

When was the last time the fuel fuel was changed?

What causes the bang? I've had that happen once - well actually, I just caught the stall. I wasn't moving quite quick enough for 2nd gear. Thought it might have been something major at the time, but no bits had fallen off and it's been fine ever since :D

Have you seen your Cat recently :)

I think it's something to do with the high compression ratio - 19:1!
