Vrs brakes

Featured Replies

For me just up rate the brake lines and the discs and pads quick easy cheap mod and well worth it!

Nope, I find the standard brakes more than adequate for my tuned CR vRS.

Totally agree. The standard vRS brakes are more than adequate for driving on the public roads (track driving is something different).

Don't forget that the tyres have to transmit the braking force to the road surface; so stopping distances are just as dependant on tyres as on brakes. No point in huge brakes with cheap poor grip tyres.

If you are experiencing fade then you need to change your driving style and use observation and anticipation rather than last minute 'panic' braking. Of course if you your driving includes long downhill alpine roads then fade may well be a problem!

To me it seems pointless spending £100s to just improve brake feel. But if that is so important to you, it's your money, so go ahead.

In 17K miles in my vRS the brakes have always been more than adequate. Only needed one full-on emergency stop in that time - at 60mph in the outside lane of a dual-carriageway when a car decided to turn left from the inside lane! As the temperature was 2C and the road was very wet I suspect that the performance of my winter tyres were as important as the brakes.

I've heard from friends, that the VRS brakes are very good.  I've only driven a pre facelift model and they seemed good to me.

Think they mite dissipate the heat better under hard braking. Plus they look nicer

They only make a usable difference to brake cooling on track with track pads when your brakes are running at much higher temperatures. They will be noisier than standard discs under heavy braking. They will wear the pads a bit quicker as well, but yes they do look good.

The S3/R32 brake set up is a good upgrade and can be had quite cheap. They've got good stopping power 345 mm front 310 mm rear.

I did find the standard 312 vrs setup lacking especially when I had the map, especially when on track.

I have decided to sell my car, subsequently I am going to keep oem and just replace the discs and pads all round like for like.

Can anyone recomend any brands to go for/avoid? My local motor factors recomended APEC discs and pads?

Update,

Just purchased Borg & Beck 312mm front discs and matching pads. Fair price I think at £81.44 all in! ( rrp £120.00 )

Will post update with how I find them Once fitted tonight.

high-carbon drilled or slotted discs with Ferodo DS2500 and racing brake fluid is cheaper than big heavy brakes.

345mm brakes on factory cars is overkill. Skoda RS2000 has got just 350mm brakes with 6-8 pot callipers for tarmac.

I got 288mm OEM disc with Ferodo DS2500 pads and they brake well enough for 190HP car. Only down side I see is no drilling for pads cleaning and better cooling. 312mm is optimal.

I got more problems with rear 260mm disc, which are overheating in mountains.
