floating feel...

Featured Replies

Hey all. Bit of a strange one. At motorway speeds the car seems to float and dance around whilst the wheel seems to stay still in my hands. Feels like im trying to guide the car rather than drive it. Its really hard to explain but its like there is moment but no feedback. Anyone know what it could be. Cars had wheels balanced and laser tracking done.

I'd be looking at ball joints.

As above, ball joints/wear in lower arm bushes, or wear in track rods at the rack end.

Edit - just a thought, I take it your tyres are holding pressure ok over a few days?.

Wishbone bolts?? Had a similar scenario on the vRoomster

Shock absorbers?

I'd say rear bushes in the front arms. Easier to just replace the entire arms, as they aren't too expensive and it's basic spanner work.

Those bushes on mine ripped clean through on both sides. Wandered a lot on the motorway and felt generally vague.

I worked with the Engineer who originally developed those bushes and moaned at him for making them so crap! He claimed they'd only ever last 40k miles anyway!

This is why i stipped taking drugs and then driving.

Hi thanks for all the replys. Quick question does the ball joints come with new wishbones. Was thinking of upgrading to poly bushes if the wishbones are shot. Would it be best to buy new wishbones and upgrade them or just upgrade my current ones. Also anything else i would need?

Wishbones can be bought complete with ball joints on after-market arms, but I don;t think you can get OEM arms that way. Lemforder supply as two separate items, I got my set through ECP. No reason not to upgrade original arms if they are serviceable and sound, apart from extra time it will take to fit bushes meaning more off road time for car.

Ball joints can be a bit of a tinker to move if they seize in, had to cut mine off.
