Mk3 Octavia Vrs TDi, need a dump valve, any ideas?

Featured Replies

Hi there, Ive just knabbed a brand new mk3 Octavia Vrs tdi from my local dealer... about a week to wait until it arrives, so filling that time with sourcing upgrades. Had a Forge Diverter (dump) valve on the old petrol vrs. Can anyone on here please point me towards one for the TDi, as the forge website doesn't list one for the diseasal engine?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Thank you

Nick

TDIs don't have a butterfly valve making the Blowoff worthless, some people like the Chavy sound though , no performance advantage to the forge petrol one either  over a revision one either on a TFSI, the revisions ones don't split

ahhh, but I did like the chavvy noise, if you used the throttle correctly, the blow off turned into a long sigh and acted as a rebuke to tardy drivers.. I do actually like the sound, and as I live in the Forest of Dean, the notion of chavs wont reach us until well into the next century... :D

Seriously though Blue, what youre saying is that there's no technical reason for fitting one? Does the oem turbo recirculate then? I bought my forge to avoid recirc blow back into the vanes...

Awesome fri said at the time we can sell you a forge one but waste of money the revised one is more than good enough and mine had 333 lb ft of torque . They look lovely thiough ! I had forge short ****fter which was money well spent

Thanks Blue... Its Christmas and I have money to blow... seeing as I cant seem to buy a Tigers shirt that fits me!!! I just love the sound of the blow off, just like the new cabin aural experience in the mk3, just makes me giggle. Anything that can make a tractor (diseasal) sound like a flat plane v8 has to be worth £25k....

My mk2 registered just shy of 400 lb/ft once on the on board monitor.. Im going to miss her. The mk3 is her spiritual successor so I owe it to the car to make her sound like stealth 2...

Hi Billy, welcome to diesel ownership, my understanding is no dump valve required, the aim being to hold onto the pressure you've built up in the intercooler, pipework, and manifold, so as soon as you've changed up and begin to accelerate again, boost is there to match the fuelling (and thus avoid black-smoking until boost is re-gained.)

I'm sure the very helpful lads at Darkside Developments would explain it better than me if you gave them a call, 01226 891654.

They specialise in tuning VAG group diesels.

Richard

PS They "attended to" my engine a while ago, ie. re-mapped it.

Cheers Richard, yes, when I went to the dealership, I managed to speak to a tame mechanic, who explained that none is required. Just currently investigating my options re Stage 1, as there doesn't appear to be much choice within the price range that doesn't make me gasp in amazement....
