Power Steering light in cold/wet on initial start

Featured Replies

Hi,

On startup I will sometimes get the steering light come up on the dash and have no power steering. Then if I turn the car off and on again it will go after a couple of attempts. Other times I have to drive half a mile then turn off and on again.

Seems to be when it's cold or wet and first time it happened was with a lot of condensation on the inside. Am assuming that it's going to be a connection problem on the inside. Haven't checked yet, just wondering whether anyone else has had similar problems before?

Thanks!

I've had exactly the issues you describe, after about a week the pump stopped working altogether so it may be condensation in the pump circuitry rather than a connection.

I think that is what happened to the pump before i got my car. When i got it it the inside was heavily corroded and the PCB was toast causing all warning lights to light up. My pump was to corroded to do anything to it.

I don't know how DIY you are but if i were you i would open the pump and clean it up with electronics cleaner/alcohol/oxide cleaning spray, compressed air are also a good thing to use in these situations. Let it dry up, clean off the old seal and reseal it. Should be worth a go i think!
