New to a vrs

Featured Replies

Hi all , I recently brought a black vrs on a 53 plate with 130k on , for a reasonable price . Although I have a few questions .. When the car is at idle , there is a kind of high pitched slung from engine bay ,, doesn't get louder when boosting .. Seems to go well , any idea of noise ??

Also clutch has started to slip occasionally ,, as I'm only chasing big power , Sachs and DMf kit ?? Or luk ?? Also do I need any special parts to change radio ?? And before I remove original one , where will I find the radio code ??

Sorry to go on

Regards tony

Best bet to diagnose the engine noise would be to try get a video/sound clip of it and then upload it, it's hard to say what it could be without this.

When you say big power what are your goals? You'll likely need an up-rated clutch and flywheel if wanting to go in excess of 300lbft torque as the factory OE ones won't cut it. Some people also do a SMF conversion as they can take more power but you do sacrifice a bit of comfort running a SMF. Oh and an LSD would definitely be beneficial when running more power as the car struggles with basic stage 1 power in terms of putting it down cleanly!

DS Developments have a number of options you can look over. http://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/6-speed-transmission-1/

Radio code should be among the documents you got with the car, if it came with any, if not you'll have to see if Skoda or someone on line has a way of retrieving the radio key.

Don't need any special parts per-say maybe some removal keys if you can't find something suitable and there was something about having to swap a couple of wires round on the loom for certain head units I recall when doing mine. Type this into google: "fabia vrs headunit site:www.briskoda.net" and it will search this website for references

Sorry , meant not chasing big power ... Just want a reliable daily driver

I went for a Luks DMF/clutch kit on mine at 135K.  Noticed a big difference after replacing the the original.  Bit noisier at idle than OEM but am happy.

Noise at idle could be EGR.  They can whistle a bit.  Does it disappear when warm?

Cheers for the reply Dave . Seems worse when warm I would say . Is an egr delete worth doing ?? You say you noticed a big difference . In what way .. Was yours still on original clutch at 135k?

Not sure what that would be.. I replaced my EGR thinking it would be gunked up but it wasn't.  The whistle remained on idle when cold and I've seen other members of the forum report similar things. Either way it doesn't seem to affect anything.

Original clutch to 135K yes.  Clutch was fine but the DMF had actually seized so had the whole lot replaced.  You could tell when lifting the clutch up it was all new, not that it was noticeably slipping before however.

I will look into a luk clutch as they seem cheaper then Sachs , is your car standard ?? Mapped ??

It is running a Shark Stage 1 map.  The Luk has done 30K no problems so far.
