TomR88's mk2 fabia vrs update 4/9/15

Featured Replies

Hi,

I thought I would make a project thread about my car as I have now had it for 6 months. I would just like to start off by saying what a good forum this is. There are some great technical know how and some great project threads.

I bought my car back in June of this year and was a bit of inpulse buy. I had a 13' plate corsa SXI but it just wasn't doing it for me. I looked at many other cars such as fiesta ST, Clio 197 and the polo GTi. I am not sure what it was that drew me to the Skoda but I sure don't regret it. The car is a Corrida Red all over with the silver wheels and the black pack.

The car wasn't heavily equipped and does have the Black Pack. First thing I did to the car was to give it a clean as a 'dealer' clean is never good enough. Here are the pics after the first wash. I also took this opportunity to give the car some much needed mudflaps.

At this point approximately 6 weeks of ownership, I noticed that the car was using a lot of oil, and after reading a lot of the info on here about it I decided to take it to m local dealer, Progress Skoda Bedford. They did the oil consumption test and the breather mod but the oil usage was still very high. They then decided a new engine was needed. So the engine was replaced and 'touchwood' been fine ever since. Even this set back had not put me off the car.

As I use the car every day and do approx. 60 mile commute I thought the interior could do with being lifted a bit from all the blackness. I ordered some silver interior door handles and silver heater surrounds. Just makes the interior not so dark. I also replaced the door sill protectors.

I have had to replace the boot gas strut as one had leaked and wouldn't support the weight of the tailgate. Whilst I did this I decided to uprate the headlight bulbs to some Philips night breaker as the originals were like candles in the night!!! Also to give the rear end a bit o a subtle look, I painted the exhaust tips black to give black tip effect. I am not a fan of chrome so the badges will be changed in due course to the new style.

Today I have been to take some more up to date photos. The only other mod I have done recently is to remove the centre silencer which brings a bit more sportiness to the car. Next on the to do list is suspension and RARB.

My friends at first were surprised I had gone for the skoda but have now realised just how quick it is and just how good the DSG box is. My friend has an astra VXR and even though it loses out of 50+bhp the car centainly keeps up. People were so impressed that a colleague at work has just ordered his new blue vRS estate.

I shall keep this up to date with any more things I do with the car.

Nice car mate!

Thank you. I haven't seen any other red mk2 vRS on the road. I see 3 red mk1 vRS's everyday on my way to work.

After a day of driving, I can confirm the car feels 10x better. The springs are firmer but not crashy and uncomfortable. Car also looks 10x better stance wise

Quick update.

The springs have fully settled now and really finishes the car off. Done 4k since the replacement engine was fitted and can confirm not used any oil *touch wood* it will stay like this.

I have replaced the silver pull handles as my old silver ones were looking a little worn as they had come of a high mileage fabia at the scrap yard. Still got to get round to fitting the silver surround air vents but will do this on my week off next week as one of the clips has broken on my L/H vent

Here some up to date pics of the car.

Thanks for the comments.

TBH I don't use it as much as I should but every time I drive it gives a huge smile.

I feel that the front needs something but not sure what. I was toying with the idea of standard silver headlights but with the black grille surround.

Finish replacing all door handles and finally got round to fitting silver surround heater vents. Cabin looks a bit smarter now. Still cant understand why they would be the bog standard interior in to the top of the range car. I tried to split the unit to get the little air vent lever with the chrome insert but was more hassle than it was worth and didn't want to risk snapping a lug off just for that. All it needs now is a new style steering wheel and I will be happy.

Where did you get the vent surrounds from, TomR? I'm sure I've seen a replacement for the stereo sound surround somewhere, but not for the vents. The interior can definitely use a bit more brushed aluminium to get away from all the blackness. As yours shows, it only takes doing a few things here and there to make a big difference.

I bought replacement door handles off a guy from uk eBay for £15 posted for all for. I searched high and low for air vents with silver surround and my local dealer said it was no longer available to buy.

I sourced these from eBay in Germany for 36 euro posted.

Don't the interior look loads better. I did this to mine last year as I found it boring inside the car. Good work.

Yh just brings a bit of colour. I found because the headlining is black, dash is black, vents black and with tints made it quite dark. All I need now is a new steering wheel to finish it off

Was hoping to purchase my RARB bar this month but another rather more important issue arose.

Car ended up like this

Because of this

£150 later i had 2 new tyres and 4 wheel alignment and car now feels a bit straighter.

What tyres did you go for?

  • Author

went for some cheap event tyres as that is all they had in stock in the 205 size. I tried 2 other garages and they both said they could sell me 215/40 but only as a set of 4.

Didnt want to spend much on them as need to save the pennies for the baby which is due next month

After the mishap at the weekend with the tyres, i thought i would finish off the car. I decided to give it a complete clean top to bottom.

It was the first big clean i have done on the car and think it comes out rather smart. I am think i may get some silver headlights to compliment the silver wheels but unsure whether it woudl be 'too' silver.
