Brake upgrade choices

Featured Replies

Hi all

I'm looking to upgrade my front brakes but there is tooooooo many choices?!! I'm wanting to head towards the Porsche calipers as they seem to be lighter?

I have the standard vrs calipers an standard wheels but can't decided on what Porsche calipers to have as there seems to many to choose from an I dont understand the difference?? Front or rears does it matter? I don't do any track days but I have got a heavy foot just wanna make the right choice as it can be a lot of money to part with for it to not be worth it?

Thanks guys

When you say standard vrs wheels, are we talking estate 16" or hatch 17"?.

Spider 17s :-)

A member on here called group1rs has Boxter calipers on his vrs, but to be honest, I'm not sure any Porsche calipers will clear standard spiders without help.

I'm sure Pete will be along shortly with more info, and I think he has a contact to get them through at a reasonable price.

Yeah petes sneak behind spiders iirc

He is running the 312s still :)

The 323mm 6pot tarox kit fitted behind marks spiders too :)

You Rang ?

Yes I run Porsche Calipers with OEM 312 discs and Ferodo DS2500 pads. Being monobloc they are very light and solid. With the DS2500 pads they need a bit of temp in them to work correctly on the road. On the track they are awesome. They will however not fit under standard VRS 17 inch spiders. I run 18 inch BBS RC wheels which are lighter than the standard spiders.

Porsche caliper part numbers

996.351.425

996.351.426

These are the ones you require together with suitable adapter to fit golf mk4 platform cars and also you will require some braided steel brake lines. Hope this helps.

I ran with leon brembos had to run 10mm spacers on spiders awesome brakes highly recommend.

PB brakes get my vote ;-)

Won't get them behind spiders though, they're the biggest callipers I've ever seen!

Thanks for all your help an meeting up with me today stunning example of a VRS your a bad influence though I wanna spend more money

:-)

I have lcr brembos although i also have lcr 18" alloys also, i thi j they woupd have beeded 5mm spacers to fit behind tje spyders, difference is night and day, they are a while different level to standard vrs set up.

Iirc the comp brake 6 pots 330mm fit behind spiders.

I had lcr 4pot brembos 323mm and they were awesome!

Get hold of some lcr 18" rims or some s3 avus alloys and they will clear. S3 rims will look better imo

Pics?

Brembos, spacers are a simple, readily available upgrade that work well, even the standard 312 set up you have with a good set of pads would be a good improvement over stock pads.

I agree, pad choice is as important as the actual Calipers

I would love to change my wheels but I've just had them powder coated Cadbury purple :-)

So looking for a caliper that will fit I would prefer not to use a spacer but if brembos are they way to go then doesn't look like I'll have a choice,

Has anyone got or know anyone they can ask what calipers they have or have had under the standard wheels please?

I've messaged this DaveB everyone seems to speak highly of but I've had no reply.

Thanks :-)

I've got redstuff pads an they are good just find I get a lot of fade when they are hot

Hmm, I can't see much fitting under standard wheels, maybe LCR Brembos will with spacers

More important than calipers, imho

Sodden beer mats have better friction ;)

Would you say I'm better off sticking with the original calipers an maybe changing my pads an disks?
