Lights

Featured Replies

So the dipped beam functions on both of my headlights (Osram Nightbreaker Unlimiteds) have both died within 24hrs, which is infuriating. Obviously the fogs etc still works, but by my understanding that's not a legal way to go about illuminating myself!

So this will require replacement, but I have been thinking for a while now that as I have LED DRLs, the light from them is really quite blue so I would like to get some main lights that match the colouring if that's doable - performance of the lights is my main concern, so does anyone know of any lights that have a similar performance level to the Osrams but with a bluer colour?

And whilst I'm on the lighting hype, what're my options with regards to replacing the interior light - either just the bulbs for a more white light, or or the whole unit for ambient lighting etc?

Many thanks in advance!

No idea on LED headlights, but you have either got defective or counterfeit bulbs there, or a serious voltage stability issue there.

Always try these, they claim 5000k which is pure white.

Not got them myself still have night breakers in swmbo car.

But I did run a 5000k hid kit in my Octavia for a while and 5k is very white with a tinge of blue, without being silly blue ;)

BTW my night breakers on my Octavia packed up at just over 12 months old and very close together too.

AFAIK the interior light is a simple lamp replacement for an led type. There are threads on here about it somewhere.

I have Cree LED headlights. Apparently they were a pain to fit but they are very very bright

I did take a photo of the bulb I used for my interior light, I couldn't find a replacement but found a very similar one (slightly smaller) that fitted it's in my project thread somewhere although you do need a resistor for it

Try to stay away from a blue beam for dipped beam. Aside from blinding other drivers, you also risk being pulled up by traffics for non-road legal bulbs. Get Halfords extra brilliance. They have a bulb that has a blue tint that definitely makes a whiter beam (not blue). They're road legal, on buy one get one free, cheap and they last for much longer than any other bulb that appears to have been tried.

Not worth risking annoying a traffic cop having a bad day and ending up with points on your licence/an unexpected festive fine. :)

I would say steer clear of all the HID look bulbs. If it has a blue tinted capsule, it will basically be filtering out most of the useful light from the filament and reducing the overall effectiveness of the bulb. Get some decent bulbs in there, Phillips extreme or Osram Nightbreaker unlimited, you should be well away.

Orsam bulbs blow at a ridiculous rate. Halfords have their plain filament brilliance bulbs, but I had the +90% Halfords plain brilliance bulbs in, and replaced them for +50% Halfords Extreme brilliance with the slight (and I mean very slight) light blue bulb. The light is still a yellow/white like they should be, but they're brighter than the +90 ones. Strange. They outlasted every other bulb that anyone has tried here.

Definitely wouldn't recommend the Orsams. The money you pay for them for the time you get for them, you may as well throw a £1 coins out your window every day of the week.

I don't know about the Phillips bulbs, but saw the price and gulped. I'll stick with Halfords. I wouldn't upgrade the lights from stock if it weren't for the fact i do a lot of night driving on unlit roads. But there's a trade off. And it becomes silly spending THAT much money on lights. Especially when they don't last.

I think the early Nightbreaker bulbs from a few years ago had quite a limited life, my first set lasted around 10,000 miles and blew within 2 hours of each other. The set of Nightbreaker Unlimited I fitted back in May are still going strong 33,000 miles later.

I suspect the OP has either a problem with voltage stability, or has got counterfeit bulbs.

Not just traffic cops. But any cop

Panda's won't be able to do you for this, nor will they pull you. It's just the traffics that will.

I've got the Halfords bulbs and they're 100% better than Osrams. I had the latest Nightbreakers and they blew in no time. The Halfords bulbs are still going strong with a much wider/whiter beam plus it's buy one get one free as said [emoji106][emoji16]

Thanks to all for the advice. I popped into halfords and got some cheap and cheerfuls to tide me over for a little bit, and the amount of different bulbs in there with similar names was confusing to the max! I'll head in again today and have a butchers:)
