Monte Carlo Remap !

Featured Replies

Fellow Briskodians,

Thinking bout getting the 1.2 tsi 105 remapped.

Has anyone had any problems havin had it done and whats the positives from it.

Whats the most bhp gain anyone has got from a remap.

Came into a few quid over xmas and strongly thinkin about it.

Would this link i attatched be about right ?

Haven't done it yet but I've seen a rolling road print out and think it gained like 30bhp ? Not 100% though mate it was a while ago.

They seem to get 130bhp.

Never heard of a problem yet.

Id use shark or revo personally.

Lot of previous posts on this for 1.2 tsi, and I'm thinking of remapping.

But one or two reservations:

+ Only 25000 miles on clock and likely to do only 5000 a year.

- 60 plate car bought 2nd hand from non-franchise dealer who was crap, and it has some noise, which I suspect to be exhaust or vibration rather than engine.

+ Uses no oil, or coolant.

- Needs some TLC when Sping arrives (body dings, good interior clean, headlight bulbs that see stuff etc).

+ Been running on cheap Chinese winter tyres all year, and it beat some 4x4s on the icy compacted stuff this Christmas around Sheffield.

- Rated to 98 mph.

+ National speed limits far less, so don't need to do 98.

- A bit thirsty for 1.2

+ A bit sprightly for a 1.2

Had a 1.6 tdi Octavia for company car, and it managed 70 mpg without much effort on runs, but never had that little bit of oomph that the 1.2 seems to give the Fabia.

Plus the heater works on the Fabia :).

I'm a 62 year old git, and not so well, but still have a bit of youth in the brain cells (nowhere else).

So, would like to remap just to get that extra kick when travelling through the Peak District, or to Matlock from Chesterfield.

I don't do fast, except within the constraints of the law; or unless my H&S background prompts me to go even slower, but if the sign says 50 or 70, I like the Tarmac to be flashing under me at the appropriate speed, and not at 35 behind some loon who thinks we should still follow a bloke with a red flag.

I won't be taking it round Donnington though.

Having been weaned on manual cars, and crash box buses, I can say that the DSG is the only automatic that I enjoy driving.

I could just just do with putting a bit more of a smile on my face, and it being a bit more easy on the sherbert.

Some folk assert that some 1.2 tsi cars show 120+ bhp before remapping.

Q - If remapping can boost it from 105 to 125 bhp, what happens if it already shows 125 bhp?.........and would it be worthwhile (or safe) to still have it done?

Or I could swap it for another 1.4 VRS before they become collectables.

Any comments or views appreciated, and Happy New Year to anyone out there.

Nice to hear

I dont live too far from you actually. Im in buxton.

Regarding the claimed power. The 105ps is just that, claimed. So 130ps will be the outcome, it just seems that most 105's are actually closer to 120bhp.

Hope the snow hasn't blocked you in.

Not ventured that far, but reckon that the tyres would have made it.

And to think - I almost swapped it for a Panda 4x4 :notme:

Gonna do the remap come Spring just for the beans.

It did for abit haha.

People on their way through couldn't get out of town on friday night so a lot of the hotels, bed n breakfasts etc were full up.

Yeah it should be a nice little increase shouldnt it (:

What about putting a fabia vrs engine in the monte ??

What about putting a fabia vrs engine in the monte ??

Why would you do that? ;) haha

If Skoda don't want to do a new VRS (and with some of the reported issues of the 1.4 e.g. oil usage, fuel consumption, pulling to left etc I can see why); maybe they could do an uprated 1.2 Fabia as per the remaps instead?

At least it would be a 'warm hatch' and could probably match the old diesel VRS for performance?

Looking at an old Ladybird book with cars from when I was a lad.  Triumph Herald, VW Beetle with 1.2 mills coughing out 40 bhp. Yet we could still get to London in less than 3 hours.

Just a wee correction there so that Internet mis quoting does not go on.

Some vRS pulled to the left, just as some Monte Carlos have, these have 205 /40 R17 tyres.

Other VWG cars have also been reported as Pulling to the left,

& these can be on 195, 205 or even 215 standard fitment tyres.

No idea what the vRS issues are with 'reported fuel use',

they use fuel according to the Style & Conditions you drive in like any car.

ie,

how you use the throttle, where and when decides how much fuel you use.

As to oil issues.

That is some engines build 2009-2012,

& then there were revised engines, CAVE changed to CTHE, different parts & Engine Managements used.

had a Revo Stage 1 map done the other week on my Monte 1.2Tsi (86) and its put me up to 132BHP and 165LB Torque.. its defiantly worth the money!

You will probably see around the same gain on your 105!

Dropping a CR140 2.0tdi unit would suit i think.

Economical. Fast enough in a small car like the fabia, tuneable to more. Reliable.

I think thatd be better myself.

As a matter of interest did you have the cars standard power output tested prior to the remap? Curious to know what the real output is on the 86bhp version.

Sounds an awesome upgrade!

Is the rubber cap on the back fitted properly?

re post #18,

You certainly need to get the H20 out of that unit, get it dried out,

then stop more from getting in.

Jus checked there and the rubber cap wasnt fitted properly .... nice one otaylor

Have a chat with Ben or Dave at Shark Performance, their not to far from you (based in Matlock). They can map the 1.2tsi via the OBD port so no need for ECU removal.

They get the best drivability out of a car rather than chasing top end figures, nice smooth power delivery, £399 for your car I think.
