Front seats - tight fit

Featured Replies

So after having bought the VRS a couple of weeks ago, what with Christmas and the PDC retrofit, today is the first chance to have had a proper drive in it for longer than 15 mins.

I've discovered a potential issue - the seat back side bolsters are a little narrow and tend to pinch my back/upper ribs and after 30 mins its quite irritating and painful.

I'm not a fat bloater but I'd say I'd be classed as a biggish bloke at 6'2" and 15st.

Has anyone else found this to be an issue?

Is there a potential modification?

Do the seats 'give' after a little use?

The SE seats are more relaxed. So theres always that option i guess.

But i didnt think the vrs were too bad. But I'm not as big as you (no offence, im just not. 5,10 and 12 stone lol)

Been in cars with much more restrictive seats

No, they do not give.

I am a fat bloater and after 40,000 miles with one car seat, and 15,000 of a new base, it is killing me.

I am going to have to fit another seat.

The seats will give and soften a little but it wouldn't be easy to modify without the covers being taken off and the foam bolsters being shaved. The problem you then have is that the covers would need altered to fit the thinner profile and the loss of rigidity that would come with it.

I'm an upholsterer by trade although not been in it for 7 years now but a competent upholsterer or car/coach trimmer would be able to do it.

Be easier to lose a few pounds off the old love handles and get rid of some junk from the trunk if you know what I mean!!!

ha ha thanks!  :D

That's the thing I was trying to say, I'm not fat just hefty - used to do a lot of weights when young and just have a broad back.

I've got a full interior from a 2012 Elegance if you are interested, pretty much as new :)

Have a sit in an SE or an elegance and see what you think?

I have the same issue with my Monte seats but coming from a Yeti I find them reassuringly tight, especially when I drive enthusiastically..

If anybody wants to swap a decent monte interior for a more forgiving SE one, im sure i could be persuaded.

Our monte seats have given a little over the 10k we've put into the car and I'm a fairly big chap..... :)

Elegance fronts

They the same as the SE ones with a different pattern? They look about as supportive?

Thanks - depends how much really as I'd probably just fit the drivers seat and have it recovered or something

Let me know what you want for it  ;)

ii find I have to reposition my bum a few times on a medium journey by placing left foot on foot rest and stretching.

am 5'9" with average arse.

maybe try a thin cushion to raise your bum.

agree seats are a tight fit.but is a sporty motor.

Thanks, but it wouldn't be worthwhile splitting the set like that :(

no I meant for the lot  :sun:

Wow

I've finally found a good point to being 5ft 4

Never had trouble with the seats gripping

Do tend to roll about a bit tho. :)

Bead type seat covers will raise u a little and also easy to get in and out..

Or ultimate choice get fitted seat,,

Expensive but can be transferred to another vehicle..

  • 2 weeks later...

I need to change the vRS seat for a good one before using the car any more this winter, probably leather and heated.

other drivers & passengers are complaining now, the new drivers seat base that was put on under warranty is crap, and the passenger seat feels as bad..

Needed to sit on my Sciatica Cushion that sometimes comes in handy for my bad back in various vehicles to be able to continue a journey because i had a dead leg.

It actually did the job, and the back rest felt much more comfortable as well.

please give details of scaitica cushion and where obtainable .

thanks

I have had that one for years

& probably the best of many, some are not very well shaped or firm.

Google

'sciatica cushion for car or office'.

Probably best getting one from a 'Mobility Aid / Scooter'  type shop where you can see what you are getting.
