Heated side windows?

Featured Replies

On my Elegance estate facelift the rear quarter windows appear to have heating elements in them. But they do not heat up.

Is this normal?

The heated windscreen and back screen work beautifully.

Could they be Radio..or sat nav reception?

Happy New Year!

Ahh, I thought the shark fin was an aerial though.

But makes sense.

Thanks and happy New Year to all here!

As stated, it's part of the 'diversity' radio reception. This way the radio can choose between 2 signals to improve reception.

I thought the shark fin was for the mobile reception

You're right. See THIS thread for more info about it.

The elements in the rear side windows on the combi and vertical elements in the back window on the twindoor are the radio aerial. The sharkfin is used for the sat-nav and mobile aerial.

If it was an L&K, the TV antennas are in the side windows on the estate too. Not sure about the twindoor. I reckon there are different versions of the shark fin depending on whether the RSAP phone, and navigation are fitted, and I think I've seen a blank version (or black slug) for when neither are fitted. The workshop manual suggests the DAB antenna is in the rear window on the estate, but no-one has been able to confirm this. The shark fin can also contain a 'webasto' antenna for a remote control for the full burning heater which isn't available as an option in the UK.

The Sharkfin is black even when it is being used not just when it's a blank. ;)

Yes, that's right.
