Brake wear indicator - any other reason!?!

Featured Replies

I have a Octy TDI (2003) and had the pads and discs replaced about 5000 miles ago (discs had worn and this caused the pads to wear at the edges!!) So I wasn't expecting the pads to need replacing for at least 10000-12000 miles (this was typical on my last car). And my driving style hasn't changed significantly.

Unfortunately the light has come on again - I haven't had a chance to check the pads. But was wondering if anything else casues the brake pad warning light to come on (Low fluid, ABS problem, wire chaffed on some bodywork!!).

Any suggestios would be great as I may be able to save myself a trip to DF Maidstone

If it is the (o) pad warning light in yellow then there is a chance the wire has twisted up a bit and rubbed out on the back of the disc. This does happen sometimes if not carefull with the routing of the wire when installing the pads.

Either way it is a brake fault and nothing should be left to chance, get it looked at asap.

On a related matter , 10-12k for a set of pads???

I'm on 64.5k and still on the original ones :D

Thanks for the advice I will look at it tomorrow. One further question is a there a wire on each side (drivers/passengers) or just on one side - ie manufacturers assume constant and even wear on both sides - I seem to remember having a 405 where the sensor was only on the passenger side.

Same for the Octy, one sensor, n/s.

Got the wheel off today, hardly any wear on the pads - and a large hole in the sheathing of the sensor wire, that appears to have rubbed on the brake caliper. Will now a fine monday morning phoning the dealers to persuade them to fix - undecided yet as to whether or not to mention that I know what the problem (hopefully the only one ;) ).

But I think that as they are skoda franchise and they fitted the pads that should really know what they are doing :(

Anyway thanks for the help and will post their response
