SanDisk MP3 players

Featured Replies

Hi all,

The MP3 player aspect on my watch has packed up. I think the problem is a loose connection on the USB wire which means I can't charge the player's battery. The cable is fixed to the watch at one end and can't be detached. I can't, unfortunately, find someone who will repair it, the watch is out of guarantee - I have had it about 5 years - and it is a Chinese make (Xonix: it is one of these: http://www.xonixe.com/products/mp3Watch/ )

Anyway in order to replace the MP3 part and without spending a high amount on doing so (the time aspect of the watch continues to work perfectly well) I am considering one of these:

I am wondering, however, if anyone on here has one of those SanDisk players and what the opinion is on them if so. Any thoughts would be welcome.

Cheers,

Dave

Not sure if maplin still sell them but when they did and I worked there the Sandisk players were OK. They do a job. To be honest most mp3 players are muchness for muchness now.

I've had a Sandisk player before, and they're pretty good for the price.

I've been using that model of Sansa for years and it's performed very well for me. If you're looking for a simple mp3 player that has reasonable capacity, good battery life and a small screen so you can navigate your files easily the Clip+ is pretty much 'last man standing' now - other manufacturers have moved on to much flasher and more complex media players with large full colour screens and other gubbins you don't need when all you want to do is listen to audiobooks or a bit of music.

Biggest plus for me is you don't have to use iTunes to load your files to it, unlike many Apple devices. You can also slap a microSD card in it to boost the capacity even more. And if you're feeling techy you can use 'Rockbox' to customise the firmware, which isn't possible with a lot of other players.

Tried to post about this a while back, but the GFoC wouldnt let me.

I own 2 Clip+; they are FANTASTIC little players, better sound quality than anything I have owned and a damned sight cheaper that most!!

Dont forget that 4GB isnt your limit - they take microSD cards upto 32Gb as well.

Occasionally they will lock up - for some reason it seems an mp3 file becomes corrupted - just hold down the power button for about 20 seconds to reset - then delete the file that caused it to lock up and replace it with a fresh version.

Dont worry, this doesnt happen often, I have experienced it only once in several years daily use.

I think they're great little devices, you can override the EU safety volume out in the menus (on many others you can't), they support mass storage so they function just like USB drives using a mini-USB port (rather than MTP like most only support), they have physical controls, they're cheap, they're easily expandable through microSD, they have a folder browsing view (really handy if you have badly tagged files), they sound good and battery life is reasonable.

The only minuses are that they can be problematic if there's any corruption in the tags and the headphone socket is weak, for some reason they didn't reinforce it as they did with the original Clip.  I had to give up on them for the latter reason as I use headphones which have a large jack.

I have had one for over a year and I love it! I also have an Ipod touch, but it is heavy, you have to use I tunes to load it and the sound is only on par with the Sansa. Also the price difference is substantial.

I had a Sandisk player a few years back. Very good player only replaced after SWMBO managed to reverse the car over it. Tbh the Sony I replaced it with was better but it didn't get on with Windows 7 very well. I just use my phone now.

Oh yes, you can also PLAY music by folder, and in the order you want, and not get buggered about by what the software thinks is a funky way of arranging it (Yes I am looking at you M$ and Creative), ie splitting a CD into multiple folders based on spurious genre/artist/composer tags.
