skoda octavia 1.9 tdi 2005

Featured Replies

Hi there I have a skoda octavia 1.9 tdi on a 2005 plate and i was looking to see if anyone could tell me what are the best parts to upgrade on this engine to see the best results eg cams that sort of thing

Thanks for your help

David

best thing is a stage 1 remap, just had mine done, turns it from a weak rattly old engine into something that works!

Ok thank you for your reply would you recommend any places for te remap and what sort of bhp is it looking to be running at after the remap

I use a remap by Shark Performance. If I was up your way I'd let you have a go to show you what its like! I find at normal driving its quite a subtle map, feels similar to normal. but once you put your foot down its like someones added an extra turbo! There is a link to their website further down the forum. Also links to other companies that provide their own stage 1 remap options. Think most are a 30-40bhp and 60-80nm torque increase.

what is the engine code mate? and what is your power goal?

Remap.  My Shark one is really nice.  Decently powerful, yet smooth and progressive - even improves fuel consumption.  About £250.

Any power adders will require a remap.  The map controls the fuelling, without which it will stay the same or worse.  If you do bigger stuff like turbo's, then that will have to be a custom jobbie - ie more expensive.

If you want to go the mechanical route then a bigger turbo, which will involve other extras (ie costs) to enable it to work, eg a set of bigger injectors to match a large turbo can cost £600ish.  New down pipe, new intercooler + pipework, new intake + pipework.  Then maybe looking at bottom end...  LSD...  Gear ratio's...

Bigger cams on Diesels can be tricky as he pistons are very close to the valves and on the PD it also operates the unit injectors.

Darkside Developments (sponsors on here) have lots of stuff, but take your wallet.

Unless you have specific goal in mind in terms of power or want that for a particular purpose then I would just get it remapped and that's it.

The power increase will be very noticeable and offers the best bang for buck.

The PD105 turbo and injectors will comfortably take you to 150bhp with a remap alone.

Hi

ok so it's real donkey now ;) what I would suggest is:

this turbo: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/330665-pd105-bxe-hybrid-turbocharger-with-billet-compressor-wheel-230bhp-potential/

PD130 injectors

4bar MAP

stronger clutch

decat

remap

and you can easily double the power...

or low cost version:

GT1749vb/vc hybrid

stock injectors

3 or 4bar MAP

decat

stronger clutch (if needed)

remap

and 170-180bhp easily

cheers

Perks,  I know your mentioning cams, turbos, injectors etc. I just wondered what modifying history you have? As the "usual" petrol N/A tuning methods get a bit thrown out the window on PD engines if you're looking at "bang for buck".  If it is as you say, just purely to make it less sluggish... Well first, its diesel, and its turbo, there will always be some sluggishness as it spools the turbo and due to fuel used, but if you mean theres no "go", would you like a 30-40% increase in power??  Something that on a petrol N/A would mean cams, injectors, headwork etc.  On a PD it can be found from the remap with no other mods.

Would you know a rough price for the top list you gave me and the place where I can get them and what remap you would recommend after carrying out this work

Robt100

If I was to go down the root of just going straight for the remap then which one would you recommend because I don't want to remap it and then it not to make that much off an difference and then start to change bits on the engine and then have to have it remapped to be set up right

this turbo: http://www.briskoda....0bhp-potential/ £600 delivered

PD130 injectors around £180-£200 from ebay

4bar MAP £40

stronger clutch £250 for one to fit on Sachs DMF assuming that your gearbox is 02M

decat downpipe - £150 or so (or just decat £40?)

remap £250 @ hidden-power.co.uk

turbo, MAP and clutch can be supplied by myself if needed

Stock turbo on PD105 is pretty much crap so I would rather go with upgraded one

cheers

A Shark stage1 remap will give you at least 140hp, and it will feel like more.  You will be able to put your foot down and overtake traffic that is actually moving.  It transforms the car.

On a PD the cost is £250 or so.  They are in Mansfield so in your neck of the woods.  No mechanical work, no second hand stuff from unknown sources, just a satisfyingly robust product that delivers.

Perks, as said above. Had a shark remap put on mine and it really makes a difference. It previously felt like a little engine in a big car, not it actually feels like it goes! Can happily pop it into 3rd at around 40mph and overtake 4 or 5 cars in a second or two. ;)
