MKII vRS to MKIII vRS?

Featured Replies

My local dealer gave me a good enough deal on my Blackline, although it's a partially forced move as my dodgy back gives me pain in the leg on every gear change forcing a move to a dsg. Having looked around used bmw's, A6 avants and e - class mercs the Octavia still represented the best value car that still provided the size of boot that I wanted.

Dealer gave me a good deal so a new mk3 vrs is on order. Petrol this time due to my low mileage. Never going to be a steal like the Blackline but still good value in my opinion.

It is Savilles I'm afraid. TBH it was the experience I had with them and in particular Patrick Sword when considering a Octy vs a Honda Civic that won me over so things seem to be stacking against me buying a mk3 in the next few years with how things are going. With Faintree already moved to Telford my choices are now limited. Savilles will be the main dealer for Renaults and Dacias round here now, but having had a couple of Renaults I'm unlikely to buy one of those again. The hunt now begins to see who I'll chose to do the servicing as I've still got a free one left. I'm beginning to think along the keep it and map it route, especially with Shark's breakthrough on the STS front so I'd be easily able to stick it back to stock if the insurance got silly.

I've already gone down the Shark route (worth every penny) and made the decision to keep the car & not trade. Within the next few months I would have paid for the car outright so I'll be approx £80 per month better off - I'll save the cash each month towards my next purchase. Hopefully my car won't cost me £380 per month in repair bills and every single month that goes by is another month accumulating funds ;)

Apologies typo error - £380 per month NOT £80.

Had a call last week from the supplying dealer of my 2012 vRS, asking if I would be interested in a part ex in March as it will be 3 years old.

Said no - I'm very happy with my current car.

I then had a reasonable conversation with the salesperson and said that I didn't think the Mk III was worth the extra compared to the Mk II that I have. We talked around the price point in the market that Skoda are aiming for with the Mk III vRS and agreed that there is a lot of competition in that area.

The conversation eventually finished with the salesperson saying that I'm not the first person that has said the new Mk III is too expensive for a Skoda.

Therein lies the fundamental problem - it's too expensive for a SKODA and by not being significantly better than the MKII why change??

That's why I traded my mk2 fl vrs in for a Leon St fr184. Far more spec than the octavia, better price (bought it 6months old) and imho looks better.

Wasn't for me. I always thought my Mk2 was a bargain. I don't think the Mk3 is.

But also for me there is a desire not to have the same thing twice. so the Mk3 would have had to have been something really special even it it was the right price.

I have issue sticking with same vehicle and buying the newer version - but it's not something I would at all costs. As you've pointed out it would have to be something special even at the current price to make me do so. Alas the MKIII isn't anywhere near special. I'd pay max £21/£22k for a MKIII CR DSG.
