Seeking a quiet tyre for my fab 1.2

Featured Replies

Otaylor38 has recently got rid of his Bridgestone turanza's, and changed to Goodyear Vector 4 season tyres, and I quote - "The car seems so quiet now. Its unbelievable".

I was interested to learn of this development, as he and I were not happy with the tremendous noise generated by the Turanza's. Mine still have a lot of wear in them (unfortunately) The vector4 season was not a tyre I had considered/was aware of - so I have looked at users feedback on these. They certainly seem to be highly regarded for snow grip, comfort, all round performance etc - the only mystery seems to be about the noise element. I know its a subjective thing, but some report that they are noisy, others say how quiet they are!

Those of us inflicted with the noise generated by the turanza's would probably think anything was quieter in comparison. So what are the thoughts of any vector4 users out there? Your comments welcomed.

Where abouts in the country are you mate?

If you arent too far, i dont mind taking you for a spin so you can make your own judgement (:

They probably arent, and dont claim to be the quietest tyres on the market, but as you say, anything is quiet compared to the Turanza.

Only thing that the vector 4 seasons dont do (that I've noticed so far) is hold a line like the turanza's did. They grip, i never ran short of grip, but you can tell they arent a full on summer tyre, if you know what i mean. This wont bother me really, but if you are a really keen (and i mean, chucking it round corners) summer driver, you might like a set of winters and summers.

Otaylor38,

did the fitter ask you what pressure you wanted them at, and have you checked them since.

He did. I couldnt remember what they were supposed to be, so i went with 30 and 32psi

I havent checked yet mate, no. Will do though (:

Hi  OTaylor38

a much appreciated offer - however I live in Bristol.

Interested in how you came to consider these tyres, were they recommended by your supplier?

Again thanks for your kind offer

Cheers

Ah bit far haha.

Well if you're ever up this way, drop me a PM (:

They were actually recommended on here (by Lee01) along with Vredestein Quatracs in a thread i started as i didnt know where to start with the tyre search. Its abit of a minefield isnt it haha.

So i went on the internet and read through quite a few 'all season' reviews and the 2 named above were mentioned often, and usually 1 of them won and the other came second. The goodyears give a better steering precision along with a few other bits that were more suited to me, so i went and got a few prices together.

Eventually got ATS to price match another local place (which employs monkeys so i didnt want them near my car tbh) at £86 fitted and balanced per corner, VAT inclusive.

They took longer than they should of due to New Year and shipping them in as a special order from abroad. Ended up taking about 7 working days to come, i was told it should be next day. So i managed to get them to adjust my tracking for free too as it was just a tiny little bit out.

I havent done many miles on them yet but im happy with em so far. Not cheap but offer much more than the bridgestones IMO.

Any more thoughts on this mate?

No news at present - but travelled from Bristol to Maidenhead today on the M4.

The tyre noise was most fatiguing. Its so bad that I am seriously considering throwing the bridge stones away even though they have only done just under 7000.

Tough call with such low mileage.

Hmm. I cant even recommend selling em.

Part worns dont seem to go for much do they.

Took me ages to get rid of the 2 rears with 5-6mm tread on. Eventually went for £25 for the pair.
