Anyone else got moon white?

Featured Replies

The reason I ask is that I didn't really want it, I wanted Corrida Red, but the wait would have been too long.

So I got the quickly available Moon White hatch and have been surprised at how easy it is to clean.

It hasn't had any special coatings AFAIK, but even in this rotten weather it seems to almost repel dirt.

When it does get grimy (e.g. yesterday, a return trip to Gatwick) a quick sponge over with warm Advanced Car Wash,

followed by a quick hosing, and it looks like new. I didn't even dry it off with my trusty Flunky chamois.

Anyone else got Moon White and found it like this?

It won't stay looking like new for long if you keep using a sponge. :)

As said..Dont use a sponge!!...Use a MF pad or mitt or you will scratch the paintwork

Also Chamois will also scratch...use a MF Drying towel instead

It will also need protecting with Wax or Sealer...You dont mention what is already applied

No idea! I have used some Poorboys on it but don't know if the dealer used anything in its preparation

I wouldn't worry with white and sponges. You really can't see the swirl marks. I had to be super vigilant with my black magic pearl Golf, never again. I quite like silver cars but when I bought an ex-demo, I had the choice of Cappucino, Silver and Black. The Capp' looks clean even when it's dirty...

I totally agree about Capp', my Mk. was that and it was a doddle to keep clean. Perhaps it is just dirt coloured.

I have used Flunky chamois leathers for about 30 years and never noticed a problem. Perhaps I just don't keep the cars long enough!

I too have Moon White and for the same reasons as you, I wanted red! I'm more than happy with it, though I'm trying to find a day to take it to Chris to work his magic.

In fact so far I love everything about it and my recent 900 mile round trip to Cornwall just confirmed how perfect it is for me and my needs.

Paint has changed in the last 30 years...much softer now they use Water based Paint......

So ignoring a safe regime will result in inevitable damage

Sorry....I cannot agree at all

Even with basic kit, you will not inflict much damage if you do it properly with equipment designed to be used with modern acrylic paint

I cannot agree at all

With which particular bit? For what it's worth, I used to be a detailing nut and have all sorts of lotions and potions in my garage including a Porter Cable / Menzerna etc. It's barely worth the effort on colours that don't show swirls. I am, however, very careful with my red Golf GTI though.  :)

The bit where you said dont worry with white or sponges

Paintwork colour, IMO, is irrelevant when giving advice

Let's have some pictures of the moon white please! !

Sorry...Couldnt resist :D

A few too many sponges used on that paint work!!

And Hammerite Smooth (ahem) by the looks of things...

We got Moon White because it's the only interesting colour available in Aus. Hopefully I'll even get to see it in the next week or so...

Regarding my original comment, I still find it odd it is so resistant to dirt, and so  easy to remove what does get on it.

Also, nothing I have used on it seems to have the slightest harmful effect so far but I'll keep an eye on it.

The only original markings were from the coverings used in transporting it new. A few small areas looked like they had had Sellotape stuck on and as if the gum had now picked up dirt.

All that came off easily with a bit of Poorboys.

Poorboys what?

Poorboys what?

Poorboys Professional Polish (a white cream)

The car was not properly prepped by your dealer

What you have on the car is transport wax which in time will wear off

The road grime will then stick...bigtime!!!!

They havent even bothered to remove all the glue from the transport tape....seen that many times

I strongly suggest that you polish and wax it sooner than later
