DE-DPF the VRS TDI

Featured Replies

Right guys, for non road use only of course on this thread!

Anyway, I have a PD170 VRS Octavia, it is still bog standard pretty much. Now, can my DPF just be mapped out? If not, and I remove the guts, will it make a mess of the rear of the car from all the smoke that is no longer being filtered out?

Thanks,

No, you first need to remove the DPF, either by replacing it with a straight-through pipe or by opening it up and removing the internals.

Either way it'll need remapping to stop the car from attempting to read and action on the various sensors.

There will be more smoke obviously but there won't be enough to soot up the bumper or bootlid. As the car needs remapping a lot of owners choose to increase performance at the same time for a little extra cost (which can often make it a real smoker), however if you stick with a stage 0 map (DPF removal only) you'll be fine.

I know it's off road use only but cutting out the DPF's internals rather than fitting a straight-through pipe will make passing an MOT easier ;-)

Thanks silver1011, I was thinking of a stage 1 too but if that smokes, perhaps I wont.

Also, I was thinking of a de-internalled downpipe if I can find one. I like a car to look original. ;-)

I think the amount of smoke with a stage 1 will be very much engine specific, a nice lowish mileage well maintained PD170 should run fairly clean with a DPF delete and remap.

Different maps also get different results. I know when I enquired (I've been in your exact position!) with Shark I'm sure they claimed their performance maps were designed to minimise the amount of smoke generated.

Good luck with it!

And Shark were OK, is that who you used?

I never got that far I'm afraid. The DPF ended up being the least of my worries after a disastrous injector change (thanks DM Keith in York).

In the end I had no choice but to dispose of the car.

Shark have had very good reviews on here. I only got as far as ringing them for advice (Ben I think it was) but at the time (almost 2 years ago) they were well priced (£450 for a DPF delete and stage 0 map) and the service over the phone filled me with confidence.
