Anybody used the itg BH-279 or the VWR vwrjp004 replacement air filters

Featured Replies

Been looking for an itg maxogen but can't justify spend that much on the induction kit.

So looked at other options and found the replacement filters.

Itg bh-279 which is around £99 and the VWR one which is about £88. I believe that they are the same ish filter as itg make them for the VWR.

Just wanted to know if anybody used one of the filters I've talked about.

Cheers Ant

I've often looked at these sort of filters to and wondered how much better they are than the standards ones, and the revo or piper cross ones which can be had for £40-50.

My old astra coupe turbo ran same 275 bhp and 340lbft on dyno with a K+N filter or a oem paper filter.

Only benefit of the above type is you clean it and drop it back in, i just swapped oem filter every couple of thousand miles

In all fairness I would stick with the standard filter and save up for the ITG kit, I really can't see any advantages to these replacement elements.

Also I would reccomend keeping an eye on ebay, they don't come up often but an itg kit can be snapped up for half the price. Make sure you try a few different searches, for example "1.4 maxogen", "fabia maxogen", "Ibiza maxogen".

I picked one up that was apparently 1000 miles old (looked brand new) for £185 all in.

I sold you that..it's dispatched and should be with you soon [emoji2] it is virtually brand new. The only reason I took it off is because my cupra is still under warranty and was paranoid that something might go wrong and maybe voiding it. Hope you enjoy it, cost me 300 new [emoji12]

I saw the Pipercross one for about £50 and was tempted but i keep reading reviews and people saying they're no better than OEM filters so i've held back so far

I have the VWR fitted wanted something quick and easy to fit.  Got bored and bought one from Awesome GTI.

Did a couple of runs with each on a quite road.

To me the car pulls a little harder after 3500k than the paper one and has a deeper sound when revved hard.   No stats to back this up just how it drives to me but I will be keeping it on………  Might give me an edge on the 16th May….

Used the VWR replacement air filter for about a year and yes it is slightly better then a stock paper filter. However if running a tune I would strongly recommend spending a bit more and getting a proper cold air intake as the improvement is much more noticeable. At $800 new I couldn't see the value in it so brought a secondhand HP cold air intake off the local forum for $400. The HP cai uses a universal BMC carbon dynamic airbox and filter with an Audi oem hose on one end and a custom bell/collector fitting on the other. The updated Forge cai looks similar.

I know the ITG Maxogen has proven gains, but I'm personally not a fan, as I'd prefer to take air from the front as the current OEM airbox does. obviously the stock setup isn't best, but I'd really like something like in the pictures below, and reckon they'd be best.

(I hope the owners of these pictures don't mind me using them - if so please let me know and I'll get them removed)

Looks like a decent setup, anyone know the rough cost and how to make this setup?

The only thing I do know is that you need to either move or get a smaller battery to fit the above.

I don't think you would need to move the battery with that setup, or even need a smaller one.

With that sharp corner silicone tubing, you will get enough space to run it to the front.

If something's worth doing, its worth doing right first time.

Don't waste your money on a uprated panel filter, I ran my ITG for 20,000 miles before trading my car in. Hands down the best modification I made to the car....bar the TMC box and centre resonator delete.....

You do notice the difference straight away. I ran the air intake 'Funnel' behind the headlight to the right of the battery. I never noticed any heat soak or poor running.

Does anyone know who on here the pictures I attached belong too?! I'd be interested to know how they did it.

Advantages of going to a proper cold air intake. Yes you will need to buy a smaller battery but that will save you 10kg. Also the space left free after removing the air box is perfect for placing a dual catch can setup. On top of all that it should provide you with the best power increase.

This is a test fit for a single oil catch can.

Or on a vRS Hatch,

maybe remove the Ballast Weights from the Rear Crash Bar, maybe the spare wheel as well, so you are 45 kg lighter

& put the Original Size Battery in the Wheel well,

set your suspension up to suit this weight & maybe get as good traction as the Heavier Estates do with firmer rear suspension

& a longer overhang.

Great looking engine bay. If you don't mind me asking, what's the cost for a new/smaller battery? And where to buy them from? Is there a particular model you went for?

Thanks!

And sorry for the stupid question, but what are these catch cans? Heard a bit about them, but don't really know what they are or what they do?

I've just gone and brought the vwr replacement filter. Will let you know how I get on with it when it's here.

Nice. I recently put the pipercross one in which doesn't give any noticeable differences but thought it would be better than nothing for the remap just added.

Tbh I thought £50 was enough for that and didn't fancy stretching to nearly £90 for one. Let us know though.
