Have I got a rain sensor? Yeti S

Featured Replies

Hi

I've got a 2011 Yeti S.

I doubt if I've got a rain sensor but sometimes I think that when the wipers are on they seem to be adjusting themselves from full on wash/wipe back to intermittent. The manual says that this is an option in position one of the wiper staulk if I have rain sensors.

I tried it again today and I couldn't get it to do it and when I put it in position 2 (i.e. on) it just stays on.

Can anyone clarify one way or the other?

Cheers

Tom

If there is a rain sensor behind the rear view mirror, sandwiched against the inside of the windscreen, then yes you do. However I don't think it was ever an option on an S.

This is what it looks like if you have one:

I doubt you have a rain sensor but you may have wipers which go down a notch when you are stationary (e.g. from constant to intermittent).

I couldn't , if asked, quantify what my vehicle has as the Oz market, it seems to me, got what was supplied.

There is no document that clearly lays out what tech features it has ........it seems like it depends on a particular production batch as to what you get, at least out here.

We get three engine choices to which you add options if desired........no models like L&S SE etc .....I suspect they're all SE.

This. Typically, if you set the wipers to a setting whilst on the move, when you stop they drop down one, and should go up again when you get going. I'm pretty sure this happens regardless of having a rain sensor or not.

Strange times......you now need a 'thingy' to know what your car has.

In the good old days..........

Thanks all. That's uncovered the mystery then...no rain sensor.

I thought I was losing my mind.

i.e. I think that yetifabia's response above 'hits the nail on the head' so to speak :-)

Yes there is and a link has been provided in the past.

In the back of the car is a label with codes on that explain everything that is on your car.

Where in the back?

Nothing no obvious barcode.

Its either in the spare wheel well/boot floor and also in the front page of service book.

There's a web page were you can add the three digit codes and it produces a list of options and features fitted specifically to your car

So that's how it's "clearly stated"?

You go into the showroom with a 'bar code scanner' now it seems if you want detail.

The salesman I dealt with didn't have much idea either about detailed specifics..

You used to be able to see what features a car had........showing my age again.

The label in the boot of my Octavia II only has a fraction of the 190ish option codes relating to my car. The full list is included in the Vehicle Data details a dealer printed off for me.

These days factories can change digital features mid year and I suspect brochure and web designers can't keep up.

That's what mine does (and my wife's Mii) but I think the rain sensor is only fitted to Elegance and L&K.

As standard, maybe, but I have the rain sensor as an option on my SE.

Ah but...  is it there and just not activated?

I have have two windscreens replaced in the last year and both times the technician has said it looks like it has a rain sensor. However it DOES have the auto lights function.

Does the rain sensor need the wiper switch in the 'intermittent' position for it to activate/vary the wipers?

Yes. With a rain sensor, on the first click up the wipe frequency is controlled by the sensor rather than a timer, with the extra bonus that it can also get the wipers going continuously and at fast speed, as demanded. I never use any other setting (well, except 'off' and the flick down for a single wipe). You can vary the sensor sensitivity using the little control on top of the wiper stalk.

I've got heated mirrors and auto dipping mirror as well and by elimination I think 'our' Yetis are SEs.......obviously no need for heated seats n windscreens unless you were to park in the snowfields.

Is that not the territory of the YETI :sun:

For us for snow bunnies maybe.....:-)))
