While driving to jkm the temp gauge went all cocked! It was reading between 70-90 and loving around from each value dependant on wind direction! Time for a new thermo and coolant temp sensor me thinks.

Do I have to drain the Coolant in order to do the thermo?

No, youll be OK but may lose a little coolant - keep the top on the header tank.  You may need to top up a little.  Youll need some quarter inch extension bars, elbow and allen socket also.

 

Buy both from Skoda direct, dont use pattern parts.

Yup mine to just had cambelt & water pump done now the temp gauge is all over the place so I'm guessing the T/stat is jammed open i'll replace the t/sender at the same time

 

The question is, is there a replacement guide for the t/stat

As said above though I don't think I'll do a drain, just top up with a 50/50 mix. Stuff in there is pink already so should be ok.

Oh, and g13 coolant these days init?

Job jobbed. New stat fitted and coolant topped up. Was a bit fiddly but done. Was the original stat I pulled out. Not bad had done 85k miles on it.

Nicely done, I got sick of battling with the weather so I cheated and got my local garage to do it.
