Puddle Lights Staying On

Featured Replies

Hi, can I ask if anyone else has experienced any problems with Door Mirror Puddle Lights staying on after locking the car? I have been experiencing a random problem on my 13 plate Elegance, when the puddle lights fail to extinguish after the Follow You Home Headlights have turned off after the programmed 20 second switch off, and the interior lights gone out as normal.

There seems to be no real pattern to the puddle lights staying on, and my dealer have been in contact with SUK, who say they have never come across this problem, and my worry is that I'll fail to notice that the lights haven't extinguished and return to a car with a flat battery.

Best leave the dealer sort it.  There may be things in VCDS that can be changed to fix it but for now the dealer is there to fix any problems like this.

Andyvee had the same issue with his old 13 plate Octavia. I think some kind of dealer firmware fix was applied the CCM (Confort and Convenience) unit which either resolved/reduced the problem.

I have a May 2013 car and had this problem too when I first got it.

It was very unpredictable when it would happen.

I found unlocking and locking car again and lights then go off normally.

After the first service it hasn't happened again so think there must have been an update to fix it.

Mine is April 13 build and does this occasionally, not reported it to dealer as only noticed it a hand full of times, and to be honest, if that was the only issue, I'd be happy as I'm losing the will to live with the car, with Skoda and the dealer as the main issue I have is being ignored by SUK and despite the dealer promising me another review and test drive of a more recent build for comparison, they have still not sorted anything!

Dose it only happen when in cold conditions their is an update for some car relating to faults with lights in cold conditions phone your dealer and ask if their is a campain outstanding on your vehicle.

There are definitely no campaigns outstanding on mine as it has been checked due to issues with dampers, only recall was for the rear hatch buffers

How long ago it's a fairly new campaign.

Early December.

You can pm me your reg or chassis number and I can confirm tomorrow I know the campaign was released not long ago or contact your dealer and get them to check for campaigns.

Hi, and many thanks for the replies... And in answer to Freedoms question, I hadn't really noted whether it was cold or not, and my dealer has had lengthy disussion with SUK whilst my vehicle was in for an attempted last month, with SUK saying they've never heard of this fault!!!

As this is not the first fault I've had with my vehicle, what with a frozen Amundsen touchscreen, and now for a heated rear screen that doesn't de-ice across the upper section where it passes across the high level brake light, only for SUK have said they've not comes across such a problems, when others appear to have come across similar problems and I'm now actually starting to wonder if they are interested in customer care?

It's not my old car is it LOL!

I've logged with Skoda UK the issue with puddle lights staying on, and they replaced the BCM under warranty which cured it.

Heated screen on the hatch does not defrost where the brake light is - these are the DAB antenna

If your reg no ends in BRV it could be my old car!

Sorry for only just replying andyvee, and firstly my rego numbers is a million miles away from BRV.... Anyway my car headed into the dealer today for a 2nd look at the puddle lights, and according to some guy at VAG UK Headquarters who deals with elecrtical faults on all Skoda, Seat, VW and Audi's, my vehicle is the first one that has been flagged up to him with this problem, and VAG are at a loss as to what the fault could be!!!!

So hopefully my dealer and SUK, something will be found over the next couple of days... Oh and your right about the rear screen, as my dealer would have sworn too that the screen was defective till they checked out another Octavia

Tell them to check against pk13 brv as the bcm was replaced and that cured it.

Or AK14OMF as this had the canbus gateway replaced to fix the headlights staying on when turned off, among other things.

You haven't got contact details for this guy at VAG HQ that deals with electrical faults, have you?

Hi, I must apologise for only just replying, and many thanks for your vehicle details which I've passed on to my dealer... But my car is still hidden away in some workshop, as to date no solution seems to has been put forward by SUK, so gaw'd knows where I go from here!!!!

But I will post the contact details of the SUK electrical techy, and once again many thanks to all who offered help.

A quick update, and it looks as though things maybe finally have be sorted, after replacement of a wiring loom in the Near Side Front Door and the Drivers Door Control Unit (part number 5Q4959592), as the puddle lights now seem to be working as they should.

And have to say, I can't fault dealer, Benfield Skoda of Harrogate for their efforts, and they seemed to be dealing with a Tom Watkins and a Mike Claridge at SUK

My Neighbour has just called to tell me my puddle lights were sill on, indeed they were. Unlocked and locked the car again and they went off. Just looked through this topic and emailed local garage. Lets hope they can sort it out!

pulling a thread from the depths!.

I have the opposite problem, in that I can't seem to get my puddle lights to work. They are fitted (Ive checked)

Is it something I am doing/not doing?

I leave the lights off (manual) and unlock with KESSY.

thought Id check here before I start to pester the dealer (only had the car 3 days)

Tried with lights on Auto?

Coming home/leaving home only works with the lightswitch on auto.
